Reporting on Rational ClearQuest data sources

Rational® ClearQuest® provides a flexible reporting solution to design and test reports with Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT) or Crystal Reports reporting tools that are configured with the ClearQuest Reporting Driver. Users can share ClearQuest reports with the Report Launcher for ClearQuest or access reports from Rational Team Concert™ to facilitate agile planning. Rational ClearQuest continues to support the data-push reporting model, but this model is deprecated.

ClearQuest reporting features

ClearQuest version 8.0 reporting features in Rational ClearQuest Web client and Rational ClearQuest Client include these features:

Support for data-pull and data-push reporting models
Rational ClearQuest supports data-pull reporting with BIRT and SAP Crystal Reports, and data-push reporting with SAP Crystal Reports. The data-pull model pulls data from data sources that are configured in the reporting tool. The data-push model defines a report by specifying a query and a report format, both of which are stored in the ClearQuest user database. For more information, see About data-pull and data-push reporting models.
ClearQuest Reporting Driver
The ClearQuest Reporting Driver provides authenticated access to ClearQuest data sources. The reporting driver partially implements the Java™ Database Connectivity (JDBC) API, which enables various reporting tools to access ClearQuest data. The Reporting Driver is installed automatically with any ClearQuest component. You must configure the reporting tools or environments that require access to ClearQuest data with the ClearQuest Reporting Driver. See Configuring the ClearQuest Reporting Driver.
Report Launcher for ClearQuest
Report Launcher for ClearQuest is an installable server component and web interface that is included with Rational ClearQuest. Report Launcher enables reports to be shared on the server that is specified in the Report Launcher configuration file. The web interface provides a navigator to view and run reports on the file server. When you select a report, the report launcher starts the server runtime engine for the associated reporting tool: Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT) or SAP Crystal Reports. Results are displayed in the report viewer for the reporting tool. You must install the Report Launcher on the same ClearQuest Web server where the reporting tool runtime application for your reporting environment is installed. See Deploying the Report Launcher for ClearQuest.
View ClearQuest reports in Rational Team Concert
Configure Rational Team Concert to use the ClearQuest Reporting Driver to view ClearQuest reports that are created with BIRT reporting tools.
ClearQuest Report Server for Crystal Reports
Use the ClearQuest Report Server for Crystal Reports to run data-push and data-pull reports with Crystal Reports reporting tools. Requires installing the required Crystal Reports runtime from SAP. See Deploying the ClearQuest Report Server for Crystal Reports.

Changes in ClearQuest reporting environment from ClearQuest version 7.1.x and earlier

Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT) Report Designer are no longer installed with the Rational ClearQuest Client
To design ClearQuest data-pull reports with BIRT, download and install BIRT reporting tools from the BIRT project. Then, configure them to use the ClearQuest Reporting Driver. See Configuring the ClearQuest Reporting Driver.
Report Server for ClearQuest is no longer available
The Report Server for ClearQuest used for managing and running ClearQuest data-pull reports in ClearQuest version 7.1.x is no longer supported by the ClearQuest Client. ClearQuest data-pull reports can be run and viewed from the Report Launcher for ClearQuest. To migrate existing reports in the Report Server for ClearQuest repository, use the IBM® Rational ClearQuest Report Exporter available from Download document 4029627.
Crystal Reports Report Design Component (RDC) no longer supported
The Crystal Reports Report Design Component (RDC) for running data-push Crystal reports on the ClearQuest Client and ClearQuest Client for Windows is no longer supported. Manage existing Crystal Reports data-push reports from the ClearQuest client with the ClearQuest Report Server for Crystal Reports, or migrate reports to the data-pull reporting model. See Migrating Crystal data-push reports to data-pull.
Data-push model for running Crystal Reports data-push reports is deprecated
The data-push model for running reports on the ClearQuest Client and ClearQuest for Windows Client with SAP Crystal Reports is deprecated. However, you can continue running and sharing existing data-push reports with ClearQuest Report Server for Crystal Reports and the Crystal Reports JRC runtime available from SAP. See Deploying the ClearQuest Report Server for Crystal Reports.
