Migrating from earlier versions not supported for direct migration

This topic describes you to migrate workspaces or projects from earlier versions of the product that are not supported for direct migration.
You can migrate workspaces and projects directly from the following earlier versions of this product:

Direct migration is not supported for versions of the product earlier than the versions listed above. Direct migration is not supported because there might be changes to the project metadata format from release to release that are required so as to accommodate feature enhancements in the release.

If you need to migrate workspaces or projects from a version of the product that is not supported for direct migration, then you must use a two-step migration process:
  1. Migrate to the latest version (and latest fixpack level) of the product that supports migration of your content. For example, if you need to migrate from version 7.0.x, then migrate to the latest available 8.0.x product version. If you are migrating from version 6.0.x, then migrate to the latest available 7.5.x product version.
Tip: If you are unable to acquire an installation image for a version of the product that supports direct migration from your current version, then contact your IBM sales representative.
  2. After you migrate to version 8.0.x or version 7.5.x, then migrate the current version.
Completing these migration steps will help ensure that your project metadata is updated to the correct format so that it can be migrated to the current version.
If it is not possible for you to complete the migration steps described above, then you can try the following alternative steps:
Restriction: If you complete these steps, your workspace or project preferences will not be migrated, and any source control links to the projects and their source code will be disconnected.
  1. Export the project and source code as an Enterprise Archive file (EAR file).
  2. Import the EAR file into the current version of the product.
