Installing Operational Decision Manager in console mode

When you use IBM® Installation Manager to install Operational Decision Manager in console mode, you can choose between several features. Consult the tables for detailed descriptions of the installable features that are spread over several packages.

Table 1. Decision Server Insights features and their descriptions.
Decision Server Insights: A highly available event-driven solution for transactional workloads that combines change detection capabilities with decision making and business analytics.
Feature Description

Insight Server

Select this option to install the runtime environment for Decision Server Insights.

Development server

Create a development server named cisDev for development purpose. This will NOT be deleted when this feature is uninstalled.

Insight Designer

Insight Designer is an Eclipse integrated development environment (IDE) in which you develop and export your solutions. Select this option to install Insight Designer and the necessary Eclipse environment.

Tutorial and sample projects

Projects for Insight Getting started, tutorials, and samples. This feature is selected by default for development purpose.

WebSphere® Application Server Developer Tools

If you select this option, you install the WebSphere Application Server Developer Tools plug-ins that you must later manually add to an existing Eclipse environment.

Insight Designer (Eclipse update site)

If you select this option, you install the Insight Designer plug-ins that you must later manually add to an existing Eclipse environment.

WebSphere Application Server Developer Tools (Eclipse update site)

If you select this option, you install the WebSphere Application Server Developer Tools plug-ins that you must later manually add to an existing Eclipse environment.

Local help system

Select the Local help system to be able to install the Decision Server Insights documentation locally. You must keep this option selected to install the local help after you complete the production installation for development purpose.

Decision Center: An environment for business users to author, manage, and test their business rules and event rules.

Decision Center

A Decision Center repository for storing business rules and event rules, and a Decision Center console for business users to manage their decisions. By default, Decision Center is installed on WebSphere Application Server.

Decision Center for Tomcat

Archives for deploying and configuring Decision Center on Tomcat, installed in <InstallDir>/teamserver/applicationservers/tomcat.

Decision Center for JBoss

Archives for deploying and configuring Decision Center on JBoss, installed in <InstallDir>/teamserver/applicationservers/JBoss.

Decision Center for WebLogic

Archives for deploying and configuring Decision Center on WebLogic, installed in <InstallDir>/teamserver/applicationservers/WebLogic.

Decision Center for Liberty profile

Archives for deploying and configuring Decision Center on Liberty profile, installed in <InstallDir>/teamserver/applicationservers/WLP.

(deprecated) Rule Solutions for Office (for Windows only)

Microsoft Office add-ins for business users to author business rules using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. This option downloads the installer for Rule Solutions for Office in <InstallDir>/Rule Solutions for Office/.

Samples and Tutorials

Projects for samples and tutorials, and a sample server profile for WebSphere Application Server to run these projects.

Local help system

Decision Center can access help topics from the IBM documentation library on the Web. When you use remote help, you do not have to install the local help and you always see the most current information. Select this option to install a standalone help system, which can access help contents locally. The first time, you will have to download the help contents using an Internet connection to set up the local help system. To do so, run <PackageGroupDir>/doc/help_start.bat or use the Start menu shortcut to start the help, and follow the instructions to install the help contents.

Rule Designer

A development environment based on Eclipse for developers, business analysts, and architects to design business rule applications. Rule Designer is available from the Rule perspective in Eclipse.

Additional Rule Designer plug-ins that provide a ready-to-use scoring model with predefined scoring and reasoning strategies.

Rule Execution Server

A business rule execution platform that embeds the rule engine. By default, Rule Execution Server is installed on WebSphere Application Server.

Rule Execution Server for Tomcat

Rule Execution Server for JBoss

Event Designer

A development environment based on Eclipse to design, develop, test, deploy, and monitor event applications. Event Designer is available from the Event perspective in Eclipse.

Runtime

Components that manage the real-time business event coordination that was defined during application development. The prerequisites are WebSphere Application Server, Business Space and Extreme Scale.

Event Tester Enabler

Widget to test the event logic in a business process. Warning: This widget is designed for test installation and it is not recommended for production installations.

Event Connectors (Legacy)

Connectors for passing data to the event runtime.

Events Widgets for Decision Server

Event widgets for business users to author business rules and event rules, capture events from a system, replay a sequence on a test system, and test their event logic in a business process.

Integration Components

Components for the integration with other products. Integration Components have an impact on performance.
