Onboarding users with transferred Notes mail files

As a convenience to your users, their current on-premises IBM® Notes® mail files can be transferred to the service during onboarding. You can do this yourself, without third-party assistance by using the Mail Onboarding Manager.

Before you begin

Complete the tasks Deciding whether to transfer Notes mail files using the Mail Onboarding Manager and Preparing for onboarding.

About this task

The transfer process moves the current Notes .nsf mail files to new mail servers in the cloud. When you transfer mail files, users continue to have access to their original mail after they are provisioned for the service. Note, however, that users will get new Notes distinguished names (sdayrn/renovations, for example) and Notes IDs after switching to the service. The original Notes name and ID file continues to be valid to access mail on the on-premises Domino server.

Because users receive a new notes name and ID, there are some limitations. See the topic Transfer limitations for more information.

Before you onboard users, complete tasks to prepare the on-premises mail files. Then, you can transfer mail files and onboard users by using the Mail Onboarding Manager.
