FileNet P8 Platform, Version 5.2.1

Upgrading and configuring FileNet P8

Upgrading the FileNet® P8 software can require that you make installation and configuration changes to one or more of the core application components and the common documentation, and the upgrade process can vary depending on the product version you are currently running.

About this task

Important: You must upgrade the core components before you upgrade any expansion products or optional add-on components.

Starting in version 5.2 of the FileNet P8 software, the Content Engine and Process Engine have been combined into a single Content Platform Engine. There is a single software installation program to upgrade the software.

If you are upgrading FileNet P8 from a version prior to 5.2.0, database upgrade procedures will vary, depending on your database configuration. At a high level, the global configuration database (GCD) will be updated and the upgrade of object stores will start. You will be directed to provide some configuration information to a Process Engine upgrade tool and the upgrade of the Process Engine database will then begin.

Throughout the upgrade procedures, there are references to the Content Platform Engine as well as to the Content Engine and Process Engine.

Depending on your configuration, you might need to install at least a portion of additional service pack or interim fix software while you work your way through the FileNet P8 platform upgrade.

Remember: References to Content Engine and Process Engine in the documentation apply only to upgrades starting from a version prior to 5.2.
