You can start and stop the IBM® Content Search Services services by using graphical
user interface (GUI) or command line instructions.
About this task
You can install more than one IBM Content Search Services server on the machine
where you have installed IBM Content Search Services.
You must start each IBM Content Search Services server
by using the command or service name that is associated with the server
name that you specified when you created the server instance.
The
default installation directory is:
- Windows: C:\Program
Files\IBM\Content Search Services\CSS_Server\bin
- AIX®, Linux, Solaris: /opt/IBM/ContentSearchServices/CSS_Server/bin
Procedure
Tip: You can configure various options for
automatic startup. In order to provide you with all of the steps required
to start this component, the following procedure assumes that no automatic
startup options have been configured. Click
for instructions on enabling automatic startup
for a step. Where automatic startup is configured, the related step
becomes unnecessary.

- Start the IBM Content Search Services services:
Enter
the following command for each IBM Content Search Services server
on each machine where you have installed IBM Content Search Services.
- GUI (Windows only)
- Use the Windows Services
console to start the CSS Server service,
where CSS Server is the name that you specified
for the IBM Content Search Services server.
- Command line
- From the command line, enter the following command:
- Windows
CSS_installation_directory\CSS_Server\bin\startup.bat
- UNIX
CSS_installation_directory/CSS_Server/bin/startup.sh
- CSS_installation_directory
- Specifies the directory where the IBM Content Search Services software is installed.
- CSS_Server
- Specifies the name for the IBM Content Search Services server.

- Stop the IBM Content Search Services services:
Enter
the following command for each IBM Content Search Services server
on each machine where you have installed IBM Content Search Services.

console to stop the CSS Server service,

- Command line
- From the command line, enter the following command:
