Accessing Availability Monitoring

The Availability Monitoring Status Overview tab for your application displays summary information about the availability and status of your tests. You can access the Availability Monitoring dashboard from the Availability Monitoring Status Overview tab.

About this task

Access the Availability Monitoring summary page by clicking an eligible application in the All My Applications pane on the Application Performance Dashboard. From the summary page, you can add tests for your application, view existing tests for your application, and view the Availability Monitoring dashboard.

Note:
  • If you are using a Chrome incognito browser, you might see the message This content is blocked when you select the Availability Monitoring tab of the Cloud APM console. To display Availability Monitoring, you need to change your Chrome browser settings to allow cookies (including third-party cookies) for your Cloud APM console website. To change your Chrome browser cookie settings, see the following example steps.
    Note: The steps might change depending on which Chrome browser version is installed.
    1. Select the option to change your Chrome browser settings.
    2. Scroll down to the Privacy and security section.
    3. Select Cookies and other site data. Or you can directly go to chrome://settings/cookies.
    4. Scroll down to Sites that can always use cookies and select Add.
    5. Enter https://your-subscription-URL where your-subscription-URL is the address for yourCloud APM console, for example, 123456789012345678901234567890.customers.na.apm.ibmserviceengage.com.
    6. Select Including third-party cookies on this site.
    7. Select Add.
  • If you are using a public or private Firefox browser window, you might see the message one moment please when you select the Availability Monitoring tab of the Cloud APM console. If the message is not replaced by the Availability Monitoring page, turn off enhanced tracking protection in your Firefox browser for the Cloud APM console website. The steps to turn off enhanced tracking protection depend on the version of your Firefox browser.
    • If there is a shield icon in front of the website address field, click it and look for an option to turn off enhanced tracking protection for theCloud APM console website.
    • If your version of Firefox does not support turning off enhanced tracking protection for a specific website, configure the privacy settings for your browser. For the enhanced tracking protection privacy settings, configure custom settings to turn off cookie blocking or only block cookies from unvisited websites. Also turn off tracking protection for your browser window type (public or private browser window). You need to reload your browser tabs after changing the privacy settings. If the Availability Monitoring page is still blank after changing your browser settings, clear your browser cache and cookies, close your browser window, and log into the Cloud APM console again.

Procedure

To access Availability Monitoring complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Performance icon ; then, click Application Performance Dashboard.
  2. In the All My Applications pane, click an application that you want to monitor; then, click Availability Monitoring in the Groups pane.
    If no applications are listed, you must create an application. Ensure that you select Custom application as your Template. For more information, see Managing applications.

    The Availability Monitoring Status Overview tab displays three gauges that show Average Test Availability in the last 24 hours, Current Test Status of all your tests, and Service Usage of your allocation for your current plan.

    You can configure how Availability Monitoring calculates Average Test Availability by selecting tests for inclusion in the Availability Calculation. Click the arrow icon arrow icon on the Average Test Availability gauge to view your test cards; then, click Availability Calculation. Click a card to add or remove it from the calculation. Excluded test cards are faded. When you are finished, click I'm Done. The Average Test Availability gauge is refreshed.

    You can view the status of all your tests by clicking the arrow icon arrow icon on the Current Test Status gauge. Test cards for your tests are displayed. Click a card to access the Breakdown dashboard for that particular test.

  3. Click See Monitoring Details to access the Availability Monitoring dashboard and view data for all tests for your application. Click View All Tests to view and edit your tests in the Synthetic Tests pane. Click Add New Test to create a test.
    Note: The first time that you run Availability Monitoring, you must add a test before you can view any data in the Availability Monitoring dashboard.
