Managing user access

Use the Role Based Access Control features in Cloud APM to grant users the access privileges they require for their role.

Security in Cloud APM is based on roles. A role is a group of permissions that control the actions you can perform in Cloud APM. You can create customized roles in Cloud APM. You can assign permissions to customized roles, or you can assign more permissions to existing default roles. You can assign users and user groups to existing default roles or to customized roles. You can assign users and user groups to multiple roles. Permissions are cumulative, a user or user group is assigned all the permissions for all the roles they are assigned to.

User authentication in Cloud APM is managed through IBM® Marketplace, or can be managed through Collaborative Operations if you have a subscription.

User authentication in Performance Management requires an IBMid. Create an IBMid by selecting the Create an IBMid link on the Sign in to IBM page. To access the Sign in to IBM page, go to the Products and Services page on IBM Marketplace and you will be directed to Sign in to IBM page (you might need to log out and return to the Products and Services page).

Once you have an IBMid you can log in to Cloud APM either directly or from Products and Services. Authorization to access an instance of Cloud APM is managed through Products and Services or through Collaborative Operations if you have a subscription. By default, the user who requests a trial or purchases a subscription has administrator privileges.

The owner of the Cloud APM subscription is the default user in Cloud APM. This is the user who requests a trial or purchases a subscription. This default user is a member of the Role Administrator role and has administrator privileges that allow this user to add new users. Subsequent users are by default added to the Monitoring User role.

If you are not a member of a role and you attempt to log in to Cloud APM, you receive a Not Authorized message.

To add a Cloud APM user:
  1. Go to Products and Services on IBM Marketplace and expand the IBM Performance Management widget.
  2. Click Manage Authorizations and enter an IBM id or email address to the Add new user or Search existing users fields. Click Add user to add the user.

There is no limit to the number of users you can add to a Cloud APM subscription.

Note: Support is not offered for user groups in Cloud APM.
