RESET command

Use the RESET command to:
  • Change the service class of work currently in execution.
  • Quiesce a problem job or address space.
  • Resume a quiesced job or address space.
  • Force a subsystem console to be inactive.
  • Release the console name ENQ for an inactive EMCS console.
  • Force an MCS, HMCS or SMCS console out of standby mode and into the offline state, which allows the console to be removed by the SETCON DELETE command. See z/OS MVS Planning: Operations for IEARELCN details.
  • Release storage associated with messages sent to the system console (SYSCONS).
Note: All of these RESET tasks, except for the console-oriented tasks, cause SMF to create an SMF 90 subtype 30 record to log the reset operation.
