Recovering from BSC RJP Problems

The binary synchronous communication (BSC) remote job processing (RJP) facility tries to recover automatically from errors and suspended operations that would otherwise end BSC RJP processing and require restart of JES3.

If a failure occurs while the BSC RJP facility is processing, BSC RJP issues a message, then does the following to recover:
  • Cancels the line, if the line had an error in a line I/O event, in a timer event, or in Remote Terminal Access Method (RTAM) processing.

If an error occurs during line canceling, the line is lost to the JES3 system; BSC RJP continues to service the rest of the lines.

  • Varies the line offline, if the error occurred during line starting. The line cannot be restarted until the operator varies the line online again.
  • Ignores the error, if it occurs while BSC RJP is processing a message.
