Modifying Fields in a Record

You can use IEBDG to change the contents of a field. You can select one of these actions to change a field after it is included in each applicable output record:

Ripple
Shift left
Shift right
Truncate left
Truncate right
Fixed
Roll
Wave

Figure 1 shows the effects of each of the actions on a 6-byte alphabetic field. Note that the roll and wave actions are applicable only when you use one of your own patterns. In addition, the result of a ripple action depends on which type of pattern (IBM-supplied or user-supplied) is used.

If no action is selected, or if the specified action is not compatible with the format, the fixed action is assumed by IEBDG.
