Run the installation program to set up the Sametime® System Console
on AIX®, Linux, or Windows.
Before you begin
- If the computer where you will install the Sametime System Console
supports both IPv4 and IPv6 addressing, map the addresses to the same
host name to generate matching SSL certificates.
Check the
hosts file and remove any lines
that start with the following:
- 127.0.0.1 fully_qualified_domain_name short_name
- ::1 fully_qualified_domain_name short_name
An issue with WebSphere® Application
Server causes the server installation to fail if these lines are in
the file. Save the file if you make changes.
Procedure
- On the computer where you will install Sametime System Console,
log on as root (AIX or Linux) or as the system administrator
(Windows).
- Find the software packages you need to download.
- Download the packages.
- Extract all downloaded packages.
- Install IBM Installation Manager.
- Install IBM WebSphere Network
Deployment.
- If Installation Manager is not running already, start it
now so you can install the Sametime System Console:
- Set the repository location by completing the following
steps:
- In the Installation Manager window,
click .
- On the Preferences page, click .
- Add the repository for the Sametime System Console
installation package:
- On the Repositories page, click Add
Repository.
- On the Add Repository page, click Browse.
- On the Select Repository page, browse to
the location where you stored the extracted files for the Sametime System Console,
and open the SSC subdirectory.
- Click the repository.config file to select
it, and then click Apply.
- Deselect any listed repositories that you will not use for installing
the Sametime System
Console.
- Click OK.
- Back in the main Installation Manager window,
click Install.
- Accept the terms in the license agreements, and click Next.
- On the Install Packages window, verify that the path is
accurate in the Installation Directory field.
- Select IBM Sametime System Console, Version
9.x as the feature to install and click Next.
Note: If you get an error stating that 64 bit installation is
not supported, you can ignore it.
- Specify the location of the WebSphere Application Server and then click Validate.
- When the button label changes to Validated,
click Next.
- In the Common Configurations window,
verify the cell, node, and host name.
The Sametime System Console
is a deployment manager and administers a cell for each Sametime product.
- Cell: The name of the WebSphere Application Server cell that
is created for the system console, such as systemNameSSCCell.
- Node: The name of the WebSphere Application Server node that
runs the Sametime applications
in the system console.
- Host Name: The fully qualified domain name
of the computer where you are installing the Sametime System Console.
The host name must be resolvable from other servers in the Sametime deployment. Do
not use an IP address, a short host name, or localhost format as the
host name.
- Create the WebSphere Application
Server administrator account.
- Create the user name.
The user must not
exist in the operating system, or in any LDAP directory or native Domino® Directory that is used
with the Sametime deployment.
Avoid a name that contains spaces. If you must create a user name
that contains a space, the Sametime System Console
may not appear in the WebSphere Application
Server Integrated Solutions Console until you restart the Sametime System Console.
- Supply a password and confirm it.
Avoid
using the ! or @ characters in the password. Although these characters
are valid in WebSphere Application
Server, some Sametime utilities
have encountered problems processing passwords that contain these
characters.
- Make a note of the ID and password because you use them
later for additional product installations and configuration. You
also use them to administer the Sametime System Console.
- Click Next.
- In the Configure DB2 for the System Console window,
provide information for connecting to the System Console database.
- Host Name: Use the fully qualified domain
name of the server where you installed DB2®. Do not use an
IP address or a short host name.
- Port: Accept the default value unless you
specified a different port during DB2 installation or
your server is using a different port.
On Linux, the default port varies. Check the /etc/services file
on the DB2 server
to verify the port number that is being used.
- Database Name for the System Console/Policy:
Enter the name of the database that you want to connect to. If you
used the suggested name when you created the system console database,
the name is STSC.
Use only uppercase and lowercase English letters,
numbers, and the following characters:
! ( ) - . ? [
] _ ` ~
- Application user ID: Enter the name of
the database administrator that you created when installing DB2. The default is db2admin.
- Application password: Enter the password
that you created when you installed DB2, such as db2password.
If you attempted to connect to the DB2 database as a database instance
user and encountered problems, see the topic Connecting to the DB2 database created when the SSC install script was run on DB2 server.
- Review the deployment settings, then click Validate.
When the button changes to Validated, click Next.
If the database connection is not successful, use the
dbverify.log file
to debug the problem. The log can be found in the temporary directory
for your operating system; for example:
- AIX or Linux: /tmp
- Windows: %TEMP%
- Review the summary, then click Install to
start the installation.
- When installation is complete, click Finish.
When the installation finishes, a summary of the results
is displayed.
- The installation summary includes the URL for connecting
to the WebSphere Integrated
Solutions Console, so take note of this URL. You access both WebSphere and Sametime administrative
features from the WebSphere Integrated
Solutions Console.
- Click Exit to close the Installation
Manager.
Results
After a successful installation, three components must
be started before using the Sametime System Console:
the deployment manager, the node agent, and the Sametime System Console
application.
If the Sametime System Console
does not start due to insufficient paging space, this error displays:
0516-404
allocp: This system cannot fulfill the allocation request.
See
this topic for instructions on how to resolve the error: Increasing paging space for WebSphere Network Deployment installation.
