Accessing help in Rational Functional Tester versions 8.2.2 and later

From Rational® Functional Tester version 8.2.2 onwards, you can access help content in two ways: either by accessing the help that is included with the product installation, or by accessing help content dynamically from the web.

Accessing local embedded help

In Rational Functional Tester versions 8.2.2 and later, the entire help content is included with the product installation. When you install Rational Functional Tester, the help is also installed. This is the default method of accessing help.

Procedure

  1. Start Rational Functional Tester.
  2. Click Help > Help Contents. The help that is included with the product is displayed.
    Note: If you have issues viewing the embedded help, ensure that you disable the local and RFT 8.x Infocenter entries in the Windows > Preferences > Help > Contents page.

Accessing help from the web

Help content is also hosted on an ibm.com website. You can access the web-based help for the product only when you are connected to the Internet. When you are disconnected, you can use the help that is included with the product.

To access help from the web:

Procedure

  1. In Rational Functional Tester, click Windows > Preferences.
  2. In the Preferences dialog box, expand Help in the left pane, and then click Content.
  3. Select the Include remote help and give it priority option.
    Note: You can ignore this step if the option is not available in the page. If you upgrade from previous versions, this option might not be available.
  4. Select the RFT 8.2.x Infocenter entry and click Enable. If this option is not listed, perform the following steps to add an entry to RFT 8.2.x Infocenter:
    1. Click New.
    2. In the Add new information center dialog box, type RFT 8.2.2 Infocenter (or RFT 8.3 Infocenter, if you are adding an entry for version 8.3) in the Name field.
    3. Provide the host server URL in the Host field. Type publib.boulder.ibm.com if you are adding an entry for the 8.2.2 or 8.2.2.1 information centers. Type pic.dhe.ibm.com if you are adding an entry for the 8.3 information center
    4. Specify the information center path in the Path field. Type /infocenter/rfthelp/v8r2 for versions 8.2.2 or 8.2.2.1. Type /infocenter/rfthelp/v8r3 for version 8.3.
    5. Click OK.
  5. Restart Rational Functional Tester.
  6. To view the help, click Help > Help Contents. The web-based help content is displayed.
