Oracle Solaris: Taking the first steps after you install Tivoli Storage Manager
After you install Version 7.1.6, prepare for the configuration. Using the configuration wizard is the preferred method of configuring the Tivoli® Storage Manager instance.
About this task
- Update the kernel parameter values.
See Oracle Solaris: Tuning kernel parameters for Oracle Solaris systems.
- Create the directories and user ID for the server instance. See Oracle Solaris: Creating the user ID and directories for the server instance.
- Configure a server instance. Select one of the following options:
- Use the configuration wizard, the preferred method. See Oracle Solaris: Configuring Tivoli Storage Manager by using the configuration wizard.
- Manually configure the new instance. See Oracle Solaris: Configuring the server instance manually. Complete the
following steps during a manual configuration.
- Set up your directories and create the Tivoli Storage Manager instance. See Oracle Solaris: Creating the server instance.
- Create a new server options file by copying the sample file to set up communications between the server and clients. See Oracle Solaris: Configuring server and client communications.
- Issue the DSMSERV FORMAT command to format the database. See Oracle Solaris: Formatting the database and log.
- Configure your system for database backup. See Oracle Solaris: Preparing the database manager for database backup.
- Configure options to control when database reorganization runs. See Oracle Solaris: Configuring server options for server database maintenance.
- Start the server instance if it is not already started.
- Register your license. See Oracle Solaris: Registering licenses.
- Prepare your system for database backups. See Oracle Solaris: Specifying a device class in preparation for database backups.
- Monitor the server. See Oracle Solaris: Monitoring the server.
