Operations Center updates

New features and other changes are available in Tivoli® Storage Manager Operations Center Version 7.1.3. By using the updated Operations Center user interface, you can simplify the process of replicating client data, creating storage pools, decommissioning clients, and verifying license compliance.

The following enhancements were made to the Operations Center administrative interface:

Replication
You can complete the following tasks:
  • Configure source and target server pairs
  • Selectively enable and disable replication for one or more clients
  • Monitor replication status and view historical trends for the replication rate and workload
  • Manually start replication processing
Storage Pools page
You can complete the following tasks:
  • Create storage pools, including container storage pools, which provide inline data deduplication. Container storage pools store data in file system directories or in cloud storage.
  • View detailed information about container storage pools. You can view properties that are unique to this new pool type and view the storage capacity that was saved through data deduplication.
Decommission clients and deactivate data
You can safely withdraw a client from service so that it is removed only after its backup data expires. Decommissioning a client deletes its schedule associations and prevents the client from accessing the server. For Tivoli Storage Manager for Databases: Data Protection for Oracle application clients, you can deactivate backup data that was stored before a specified date and time.
Services page
You can complete the following tasks:
  • Create management classes
  • View inactive policy settings
  • Edit policy sets and activate changes
License compliance
You can view front-end and back-end capacity usage to estimate compliance with Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery license entitlements.
Command builder
You can view syntax cues and other command-completion assistance in the Operations Center command-line interface.
REST API access
You can enable the integration services feature to allow applications that use Representational State Transfer (REST) services to query and manage the storage environment by connecting to the Operations Center.
Improvements in Tivoli Storage Manager client management services
New features are added to improve the collection of diagnostic information from clients for basic monitoring capability in the Operations Center.
You can complete the following tasks with the Tivoli Storage Manager client management service:
  • Verify that a node definition is correctly created with the CmsConfig verify command.
  • Add a client node definition with the CmsConfig addnode command.
  • Add the location of client log files to an existing node definition with the CmsConfig addlog command.
  • Specify a configuration path with the CmsConfig discover command to discover log files that are in non-default locations.
  • Optionally, create REST applications to initiate client actions such as reading and updating configuration files, querying the status of the client acceptor and scheduler, and backing up and restoring data on a backup-archive client.
