Backing up Tivoli Monitoring for Tivoli Storage Manager

It is a best practice to back up your Tivoli® Monitoring for Tivoli Storage Manager system, which includes the data that was collected by Tivoli Monitoring for Tivoli Storage Manager, the WAREHOUS database, any customized Cognos® reports, and any configuration settings that might be needed.

About this task

The following scenario outlines the tasks that must be completed to back up your system, and verify that your backups are successful.

Procedure

  1. Install the Tivoli Storage Manager client (both 32-bit and 64-bit run times). For more information, see Installing the Tivoli Storage Manager backup-archive clients .
  2. Back up the IBM® Tivoli Monitoring and Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring server data by using Tivoli Storage Manager client: Backing up IBM Tivoli Monitoring, Tivoli Enterprise Portal server, and agent configuration settings
  3. Configure the system to back up the WAREHOUS database, and then start a backup:
  4. Validate the success of your backups: Verifying and deleting backups of Tivoli Monitoring for Tivoli Storage Manager
  5. Optional: Export any customized Tivoli Enterprise Portal workspaces and queries to the file system and back them up using the Tivoli Storage Manager client: Exporting Tivoli Enterprise Portal workspaces and queries
  6. Optional: Export any customized situations: Exporting IBM Tivoli Monitoring situations
  7. Optional: Export IBM Tivoli Monitoring historical settings: Exporting IBM Tivoli Monitoring historical settings
  8. Back up any customized configuration files for the storage agent by using the Tivoli Storage Manager client: Backing up IBM Tivoli Monitoring, Tivoli Enterprise Portal server, and agent configuration settings
  9. Optional: Export any customized Cognos reports to the file system and back them up by using the Tivoli Storage Manager client: Exporting Cognos reports
