The Tivoli® Storage Manager V6.4 and later backup-archive client provides parallel backup processing for backing up multiple VMware virtual machines at the same time with one Tivoli Storage Manager data mover node.
The data mover node is the node that represents a specific Tivoli Storage Manager backup-archive client that moves data from one system to another.
If you have a license to use Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments, you can run parallel backup processing of full, incremental, incremental-forever full, and incremental-forever incremental virtual machine backups. If you use the standard backup-archive client, you can run only full virtual machine backups in parallel.
To help optimize parallel virtual machine backups, adjust the settings for the vmmaxparallel, vmlimitperhost, and vmlimitperdatastore options. These options can also help reduce the processor load that parallel backups can create on a host in the vSphere infrastructure.
