Installing CICS Explorer: download a compressed file

You can install CICS Explorer® as a stand-alone product on a local workstation by downloading a self-contained compressed file. When you install CICS Explorer in this way, you must use the Eclipse p2 update method to install updates or additional features.

Procedure

  1. On the Download Eclipse Tools web page, navigate to the Using Eclipse p2 section and Option 2 - I am starting from scratch.
  2. Click the appropriate CICS Explorer option for your operating system and follow the prompts to download a compressed file to your system.
  3. Extract the contents of the compressed file to a new directory on your local workstation.
    Example directories are:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Explorer on a Windows operating system
    • C:\Users\my_user_name\Explorer on a Windows operating system
    • ~/Explorer/ on a Linux or OS X operating system
When the extraction process completes, open the zosexplorer directory in your new directory (Explorer in this example).
  4. Locate the zosexplorer.exe file (zosexplorer on Linux or the zosexplorer application on OS X) and create a shortcut on the desktop.

Results

CICS Explorer is now installed on the workstation. To start it, double-click the shortcut icon.

On an OS X operating system, to start CICS Explorer for the first time, press ctrl+click on the z/OS® Explorer icon, click Open on the menu, then follow the prompts to confirm that you want to run this application on your system.
