Getting started with the CICS Explorer

With a few steps you are ready to view the resources in your CICS® regions and begin to administer them.

Step 1 - Install the CICS Explorer®
The CICS Explorer can be installed on either a local workstation or a remote network server. For further information about installing the CICS Explorer, see CICS Explorer installation.
Step 2 - Configure system connections
You must configure the CICS Explorer to connect either to a CICSPlex® SM system or to a single CICS region. For further information about configuring the CICS Explorer system connections, see Configuring a system connection.
Step 3 - Select a CICSplex or CICS region
When the CICS Explorer is connected to a system, the CICSplex Explorer view displays the CICSplex and CICS regions in the current view scope. If you select a CICSplex, you will see all resources in the CICSplex. If you select a single CICS region, you will see only the resources in that system.
Step 4 - Select a view to start browsing and administering the resources
If the resource view that you want is already open in the workbench, clicking the view tab brings it to the front. If the view is not open, select the view from the list of operation or administration views accessible from the workbench menu bar. The resource view displays all the resources of that type in the selected scope. If a large number of resources are displayed, you can use a filter to find the resource that you want. Selecting a resource and right-clicking displays the context menu and from this menu you can select actions to perform against the resource.

A basic tutorial is available in the CICS Explorer. The tutorial describes the different parts of the CICS Explorer and how to use the features and functions. Sample tasks help you get started.
