Sorting data in a view

When a view is first populated, the content is typically displayed with the data in the first column in ascending order. In CICS® TS 4.2 and later, you can choose to change the sort order, or the sorted column.

Before you begin

You must be connected to a CICS TS 4.2 or later system using CMCI for data sorting to work. Attempting to sort a column in a release before CICS TS 4.2 has no effect.

Procedure

  1. Using the scroll bar if necessary, ensure that the column you want to sort is visible in the view.
  2. Click the column name to display the data in the required order. Each time you click the column name, the sort order changes. The sort order rotates in the following way:
    • Sort ascending
    • Sort descending
    • Original sort order

Results

Each time you click the column name the data is refreshed and displayed in the next sort order in the rotation. The column heading is decorated with an icon to indicate the sort order. If you subsequently close the view, the sort order is remembered and displayed again the next time the view is opened. If you remove the sort column from the view, the original sort order for the view is used. The current sort order is retained if the view is refreshed.
