Displaying information inside binary files (what)

The what command reads information encoded into some binary files, as follows:
  • Information about the compiler version is encoded in /opt/IBM/xlf/15.1.3/bin/xlfentry.
  • Information about the bit mode,
    • The compiler that created the .mod file, the date and time the .mod file was created, and the source file is encoded in each .mod file.
    • The compiler that created the .smod file, the date and time the .smod file was created, and the source file is encoded in each .smod file.
