Migrating artifacts from WebSphere Process Server V7.0.x or V6.2.x

You can migrate artifacts from a previous version of WebSphere® Process Server to IBM® Business Process Manager V8.5.6.

About this task

The following product, version, and release level combinations are supported as sources for migrating your business data and applications to IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.6.

WebSphere Process Server functionality is included in exactly the same way whether you install IBM BPM Advanced - Process Server or you install IBM BPM Advanced and select the Process Server during installation. Any differences between installing IBM BPM Advanced and installing IBM BPM Advanced - Process Server are noted in the documentation.

If you migrate the target runtime environment to IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.6, you can run the applications that you previously deployed, even if you do not migrate Integration Designer or WebSphere Integration Developer. However, if you want to edit the applications, you must also migrate Integration Designer or WebSphere Integration Developer to a compatible version so the major versions of the two products match.

Instead of migrating the source artifacts individually, you can import your existing workspace by selecting the directory where your workspace is located when IBM Integration Designer is launched. See Considerations for the IMB Integration Designer migration process before you import your existing workspace.

To migrate artifacts, complete the following tasks:

  1. Installing IBM Business Process Manager for artifact migration
    Before you begin artifact migration, install and configure IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.6 on a different computer, or in a different directory on the same computer as your previous version.
  2. Migrating source artifacts
    IBM Integration Designer source artifact migration refers to the process of importing a project interchange (PI) created in an older version of IBM Integration Designer or WebSphere Integration Developer into a newer version of IBM Integration Designer.
  3. Migrating XML maps
    The underlying structure of XML maps was changed between releases of WebSphere Integration Developer. Use the migration wizard or the quick fix feature to migrate your maps to the current version.
  4. Migrating generated Java EE staging projects
    When you import a project interchange file that contains modules from a previous version of Integration Designer or WebSphere Integration Developer, a migration wizard is automatically launched in IBM Integration Designer V8.5.6. If the project interchange file contains any generated Java Platform, Enterprise Edition staging projects (such as EJB, Web, or App projects), the migration wizard contains a page to help you migrate the projects.
  5. Migrating server runtime targets
    When you import a project interchange file that contains modules from a previous version of Integration Designer or WebSphere Integration Developer, a migration wizard is automatically launched in IBM Integration Designer V8.5.6. If the project interchange file contains any projects that target a previous version of the server runtime, the migration wizard contains a wizard page that enables you to automatically update the projects to target the current server runtime of Integration Designer.
  6. Considerations for the IBM Integration Designer migration process
    When you migrate from a previous version of Integration Designer or WebSphere Integration Developer to IBM Integration Designer V8.5.6, most of the migration is done automatically. However, there are a number of considerations to be aware of that might require additional manual configuration.
