Loading the IBM WebSphere MQ virtual image for VMware ESX hypervisor

Save a copy of the IBM® WebSphere® MQ virtual image for VMware ESX hypervisor in the VMware ESX hypervisor data store.

Before you begin

  • Install a copy of VMware vSphere Client on the workstation where you are going to perform the task.
  • Do the task, Installing, to download the compressed IBM WebSphere MQ VMware ESX hypervisor virtual image files to a workstation and uncompress the files into an empty directory.

About this task

Use the VMware vSphere Client to load the IBM WebSphere MQ Hypervisor Edition for Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® virtual image into the VMware ESX hypervisor data store.

Procedure

  1. From the VMware vSphere Client, select the Summary tab. In the Datastore window, right-click a data store in which you want to store the virtual machine image, and click Browse Datastore.
  2. Using the Datastore Browser, create a directory in which to store the virtual machine image.
  3. Using the Datastore Browser, upload the following files:
    os.vmdk
    os-flat.vmdk
    app.vmdk
    app-flat.vmdk
    wmqhve.vmx
    or upload the whole directory.
Note: The Datastore Browser does not show the files os-flat.vmdk and app-flat.vmdk. By default it represents them as being part of os.vmdk and app.vmdk.
  4. Register the virtual image on the hypervisor.
    1. In the Datastore Browser, right-click on the file wmqhve.vmx and select Add to inventory, which starts a wizard.
    2. Type a name for the virtual machine image and select Next.
    3. Check that the virtual machine options are correct and select Finish.
