Installing

Download the latest version of the IBM® WebSphere® MQ Hypervisor editions from Passport Advantage. Uncompress the installation files and add the files you require onto the target server.

Before you begin

If you are installing IBM WebSphere MQ Hypervisor editions onto IBM Workload Deployer or IBM PureApplication® System, check your access and permissions to use the device.
  • Check that you can establish an active connection to the appliance.
  • Check that your user ID on the appliance has one of the following permissions:
    • Create new catalog content.
    • Cloud administration.

    From the appliance user interface, click System > Users and in the list of users, click your user name.

About this task

The IBM WebSphere MQ Hypervisor Edition eAssemblies on Passport Advantage contain compressed files in .tgz format. One contains the virtual image for VMware ESX hypervisor, and the other the virtual image and script packages for IBM Workload Deployer or IBM PureApplication System. Load the same virtual image and script packages on either appliance.

The preliminary installation steps are to download and uncompress the installation files and transfer the files to the target server or appliance. Then manually load the IBM WebSphere MQ virtual image for IBM WebSphere MQ Hypervisor Edition for Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® intoVMware ESX hypervisor, or add the script bundles and the virtual images to the catalog on either IBM Workload Deployer or IBM PureApplication System appliances. The instructions are the same for both appliances.

Procedure

  1. Find the latest versions of IBM WebSphere MQ Hypervisor Edition for AIX® and IBM WebSphere MQ Hypervisor Edition for Red Hat Enterprise Linux on Passport Advantage; see Passport Advantage® and Passport Advantage Express® web site.

    The full product name of IBM WebSphere MQ Hypervisor Edition for AIX is IBM IBM WebSphere MQ Hypervisor Edition V7.5 for AIX.

  2. Optional: Check whether the version on Passport Advantage is more recent than the version on IBM Workload Deployer.
    1. From the IBM Workload Deployer browser, click Catalog > Virtual images
    2. In the list of virtual images, find the latest release of IBM WebSphere MQ Version 7.5 or IBM WebSphere MQ Version 7.0.1.
    3. Compare the release number with the version on Passport Advantage.

      Continue with these steps if the version on Passport Advantage is more recent.

  3. Download the compressed IBM WebSphere MQ Hypervisor Edition for AIX or IBM WebSphere MQ Hypervisor Edition for Red Hat Enterprise Linux eAssembly files that you require from Passport Advantage onto a UNIX or Windows server.
    • Choose whether to download the IBM WebSphere MQ virtual image for VMware ESX hypervisor or the virtual images and script bundles for the IBM Workload Deployer and IBM PureApplication System appliances.
    • Download the files onto a UNIX or Windows workstation on which you can uncompress GNU compressed file format files.
    • You must be able to transfer the uncompressed files from the workstation to the target server or appliance.
  4. Extract the downloaded file into an empty directory.
    • The compressed files for the appliances are in GNU compressed file format. The extracted files are approximately 20% larger than each downloaded compressed file.
      • On UNIX, extract the image from the package by running the tar command with the -z (.gzip) option. tar must be at version 1.20 or higher.
      • You can uncompress the tar file on Windows. Uncompress it with one of the commonly available tools that can be used to extract .tar files.
    • The compressed file for VMware ESX hypervisor is in .zip format. You can uncompress it with one of the commonly available tools that can be used to extract .zip files.
  5. Install IBM WebSphere MQ Hypervisor Edition on the target server or appliance.
