Configuring access to an X Window System server (WebSphere Application Server)

On Linux for System z®, IBM® Content Navigator needs access to a running X Window System server to convert vector graphics to PDF and HTML and for previewing vector graphics.

About this task

Examples of vector graphics files include CAD drawings and presentation files, such as Microsoft PowerPoint files. Bitmap graphic conversion does not require access to a running X Window System server. Examples of bitmap file formats include GIF, JPEG, TIFF, and Windows BMP files.

To enable IBM Content Navigator to convert documents to PDF and HTML and to generate document previews, you must set the DISPLAY environment variable on your web application server to an X Window System server.

Procedure

To configure access to an X Window System server on WebSphere® Application Server:

  1. Open the WebSphere Application Server administrative console.
  2. Go to Servers > Server Types > WebSphere application servers and click the application server where you deployed IBM Content Navigator. For example, select ecmclientserver1.
  3. In the Server Infrastructure section, click Java and Process Management > Process Definition and then click Environment Entries.
  4. Change the value for the DISPLAY environment variable:
    • If the DISPLAY environment variable does not exist, click New. In the Name field, type DISPLAY. In the Value field, enter the location of a running X Window System server display. For example, enter X_Windows_server_host_name:0.0.
    • If the DISPLAY environment variable exists, change value to the location of a running X Window System server display. For example, enter X_Windows_server_host_name:0.0.
