Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server updates V8.1.2

This document provides information about what's new or what has changed in Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server version 8.1.2.

What's new

Automatic loading of Windows PowerShell modules

Change Data Capture

  • Change Data Capture (CDC) is supported when you restore legacy backups of your SQL Server databases. On MMC, when you specify the KeepCDC option during a restore of a legacy backup, change data capture records (that capture changes, such as updates, addition, and deletion activity to SQL Server tables), are retained. You can also specify the /KeepCDC optional parameter when you run the Restore command from the command line or when you use the Restore-DpSqlBackup Windows PowerShell cmdlet. For more information, see Restore optional parameters.

What has changed

Scheduling wizard updated to support IBM Spectrum Protect™ client scheduler
  • If you use the scheduling wizard on MMC to create a scheduled data protection task, you can now choose a IBM Spectrum Protect client scheduler to manage the scheduled operation. When you select the IBM Spectrum Protect client scheduler check box, a macro file is created that automatically contains the relevant IBM Spectrum Protect server commands you require to create a scheduled task. You can specify IBM Spectrum Protect server details, such as administrator user details and the port and address of the IBM Spectrum Protect server. You can also edit the created macro file according to your requirements.

You can access the scheduling wizard in MMC by clicking Manage> Scheduling in the navigation tree or from the Actions pane by clicking the Run Interactively button to change the mode to Run Scheduled.
