To prepare the system for automatic and manual database
backups, you must specify the device class to be used.

Ensure that you have defined a tape or file device class.

About this task
Complete the following steps to set up your system for database backups.
Procedure
- If you did not use the configuration wizard (dsmicfgx) to configure the
server, ensure that you have completed the steps to manually configure the system for database
backups.
- Select the device class to be used for backups of the database. Issue the following command from an IBM Spectrum Protect™ administrative command
line.
set dbrecovery device_class_name
The device class that
you specify is used by the database manager for database backups. If you do not specify a device
class with the SET DBRECOVERY command, the backup fails.

For example, to specify that the
DBBACK device class is to be used,
issue this command:
set dbrecovery dbback
