Obtaining an Installation Manager installation kit for installing IBM HTTP Server for z/OS

Installation files for IBM® Installation Manager can be ordered as z/OS® no-charge product 5655-IMZ (FMID HGIN140). You can also download the IBM Installation Manager installation kit and sample jobs to your z/OS system from the IBM website.

About this task

IBM Installation Manager Version 1.8.5 or later is required to install the product.

Procedure

Choose one of the following options to obtain Installation Manager installation files:

  • Obtain Installation Manager files in SMP/E format by ordering and installing the no-charge product 5655-IMZ (FMID HGIN140).

After you install it, the installation kit location is /usr/lpp/InstallationManager/V1R4 and the Installation Manager sample jobs are installed into the GIN.SGINJCL data set.

  • Download Installation Manager files.
    1. Download an Installation Manager kit for z/OS from the Installation Manager and Packaging Utility download links page.
    2. Copy the Installation Manager kit in binary to your z/OS system.
For example, you can use FTP.
    3. Extract the installation files to a directory, such as /usr/lpp/InstallationManager/V1R4, by using an unzip or jar command.

You can download the unzip utility from the z/OS Unix System Services ported tools page.

Important: If you extract the files by using the jar command, you must restore the file permissions and the execute permissions for the extracted files by running the following command:
      chmod -R 755 /usr/lpp/InstallationManager/V1R4
    4. To set extended attributes for the installation files, run the ./set-ext-attr.sh command.
    5. Download the Installation Manager sample jobs by following the instructions on the Sample jobs for Installation Manager on z/OS page.

What to do next

The installation kit file system can be mounted read-only after it is installed with SMP/E or downloaded and extracted. It is not modified during Installation Manager processing.

When the Installation Manager installation kit is available on your z/OS system, you can use it to create an Installation Manager. See Installing Installation Manager on z/OS.
