Setting up a local file system for a custom installation

You must copy and extract the contents of the Jazz™ for Service Management installation media to your local file system. You can obtain the installation media in the form of a DVD or an electronic image from IBM® Passport Advantage®.

Procedure

  1. If necessary, create a common directory to store the extracted Jazz for Service Management installation media, referred to as the JazzSM_Image_Home/ directory.
Restriction: Ensure that the path to the common root directory does not contain any spaces or special characters. The launchpad does not support spaces or special characters in directory names, and does not work if they exist in the path.
  2. Download the Jazz for Service Management installation media for your platform and extract the contents to the JazzSM_Image_Home/ directory.
Note: If the directory structure exceeds the length that is supported by the operating system, you might encounter the Path too long error when you extract compressed files. Ensure that the directory structure length is within the limit that is specified for the operating system. Also, ensure that you use the Gnu tar command on UNIX systems.

Table 1 summarizes the primary directories that contain the installation files.
