What's new in IBM Case Manager, Version 5.3.1?

IBM® Case Manager, Version 5.3.1 provides new features and other enhancements.

Quick tasks

In Case Manager Builder, you can now configure case types to enable case workers to add and manage their own set of tasks. Case workers can use these quick tasks to organize their work or to address unexpected or one-time activities that are related to a case. For example, a case worker determines that a follow-up call to a customer is required. The case worker creates a quick task, assigns the task to another case worker, and sets a due date.

From the To-Do List widget in Case Manager Client, a case worker can simply type in a name to create a quick task. The case worker can then assign the task to another worker, add attachments, and set a due date. A case worker can complete or restart a quick task with a single click.

Incremental deployment to a test or development system

When you deploy a solution, Case Manager Builder now deploys by default only the changed solution artifacts. This incremental approach provides a faster deployment to the test or development environment. In addition, you still have the option of deploying all solution artifacts.

A more streamlined UI style

Case Manager Client and IBM Case Manager administration client have a fresh, new look. After you install IBM Case Manager V5.3.1, the new default theme is applied to your IBM Case Manager environment. However, the default theme is applied only on desktops that use the Default theme (previously called the IBM theme). This way, your custom themes aren't overwritten. Custom themes are still based on the Classic theme.

If you're not ready to switch, you can revert to the previous theme by completing the following steps:
  1. Go to the Settings page of the administration tool.
  2. Select the Classic option for the Theme style field.
  3. Save your changes and refresh your browser.
Need to use both UI styles? Keep the new Default theme style configured and complete the following steps:
  1. Go to the Themes page of the administration tool.
  2. Create a new theme. Name the theme and save it without changing any of the theme settings.
  3. For each desktop in which you want to use the Classic theme, go to the Appearance tab, select the custom theme that you created in the previous step, and save your changes.

For more information about themes, see Defining themes.

Customizing the layout of solution pages

Page Designer in Case Manager Builder now includes a Free Form layout that gives you more control over page design. Instead of providing a set layout of columns and rows, the Free Form layout begins as a blank page. You can drag column, titled, and tab containers onto the page and then drag widgets into these containers.

New case widgets to customize your solution pages

IBM Case Manager V5.3.1 includes two new case widgets that you can add to solution pages:
Chart widget
You can use the Chart widget to display any of the IBM Case Monitor Dashboard charts on a page. These charts provide views of case-related and task-related statistics for a solution.
Markup widget
You can use the Markup widget to include custom HTML and JavaScript output on a page in Case Manager Client. For example, you might use this widget to include a personalized message to the case worker who is viewing the page. You might also use this widget to display status information that is generated outside of IBM Case Manager.
