IBM Streams 4.2
Monitoring a running SPL application
You can monitor a running SPL application in the Streams Explorer view in IBM® Streams Studio.
About this task
You can view a list of the current jobs on the instance to which you have access. You can also view the current state of the job.
Procedure
- To view the metrics for a job:
- In the Streams Explorer view, right-click the job shortcut in the Streams Jobs folder, or right-click the instance to which the job belongs
- From the menu, select Metrics > Show Metrics.
- To view a graph of the jobs that are running on an instance:
- In the Streams Explorer view, right-click the instance.
- From the menu, select Show Instance Graph. The applications to which you have access is loaded. For more information, see Monitoring SPL applications using the instance graph.
- To check the health of a job: In the Streams Explorer view, each job indicates its health in brackets after the job name and
might also display an alert indicator. Health is an aggregation of all the processing element (PE)
health summaries for the job. If all of the PEs for a job are reported as healthy, Streams Explorer
reports the job as healthy. The following table describes the possible values:You can also view the health of individual processing elements. The health summary for a PE is based on the state of the PE and the state of the connections within the PE. The following table describes the possible values:
Table 1. Health summary for a job Health summary Description healthy Indicates that the job is running and all of the PEs in the job are working correctly. partiallyHealthy Indicates that at least one PE in the job has a partially healthy value, and the remaining PEs have either healthy or partially healthy values. partiallyUnhealthy At least one of the PEs in the job is unhealthy. unhealthy All of the PEs in the job are unhealthy. Table 2. Health summary for a PE Health summary Description healthy Indicates that the PE is running and all of the required and optional connections are connected. partiallyHealthy Indicates that the PE is running and all of the required connections are connected, but some of the optional connections are in the process of being connected. partiallyUnhealthy Indicates that the PE is not stopped or in the process of stopping, but either the state is not running or some required connections are not yet connected. unhealthy Indicates that the PE is stopped or is in the process of stopping.
