Enabling floating licenses

If you are using floating licenses, you can configure your product to point to a license server that serves the floating licenses. Use the IBM® Installation Manager Manage Licenses wizard to configure your product to point to a license server.

Before you begin

If you chose to install IBM Rational® Performance Tester Starter Edition or Rational Test Workbench Web UI Tester Starter Edition, you do not need a product license. For more information about the starter editions, see the Starter editions topics.

To use floating licenses, set up the IBM Rational License Key Server and deploy your floating licenses on the license server. For more information about setting up the server and the licenses, see Rational Common Licensing.

Obtain the floating licenses:
  • Log in to the Rational License Key Center. You need the login credentials that were sent to you in a welcome email. For more information about accessing your online account and licenses, go to the IBM Rational Support Licensing page
  • To generate the floating licenses, you need the hostname and port number of the license server. Floating licenses are generated for a specific server and can be enabled only on the server that they were generated for.

About this task

Perform this task after you install the product.

Procedure

  1. On the IBM Installation Manager main page, click Manage Licenses.
  2. Select the product to enable floating licenses for, and select the Configure Floating license support radio button. Click Next.

  3. Review and accept the license agreement. Click Next.
  4. On the Floating License Support page, enter the following details and click Next:
    1. Select the Enable floating license enforcement radio button.
    2. Click the Add icon Add icon
    3. Enter the license server name and port. The default license server port number is 27000.
    4. Click OK.

  5. Click Finish to enable floating license support.
