Navigating the user interface

After you log in to Rational® Test Control Panel, the Home page of Rational Test Control Panel is displayed. This topic explains how to navigate around the IBM® Rational Test Control Panel user interface and use various pages to view schedules, agents, test results, environments, and recorded events, and to handle administrative tasks such as managing users, domains, and security.
You can navigate across pages in the Rational Test Control Panel in either of the following ways:
  • Click any of the links in the navigation bar shown at the top of the page:

  • Click any icon on the home page. See the following table for details.
Note: The content on each of the pages is filtered based on the selected domain. For information about domains, see Domain management.
Icon Function
Scheduling

Opens a page that lists all the scheduled tests and suites. On this page, you can delete or run scheduled tests and suites. Scheduled tests can be repeating tests. On this page, you can also prevent a test from running at the scheduled time by using the Pause option. To run the tests and suites again at their next recurring scheduled time, you use the Resume option. You can schedule tests from Rational Integration Tester.

Agents

Opens a page that lists all agents and proxies registered with Rational Test Control Panel. For detailed information, see Proxy administration.

Results

Opens a page that shows test and suite results from all configured results database. Results databases can be configured manually through the Administration page, or indirectly, from published Rational Integration Tester projects. For more information, see Viewing results in Rational Test Control Panel.

Usage

Opens a page that shows usage statistics of virtual services across Rational Test Virtualization Server and Rational Integration Tester. For more information, see Viewing usage statistics in Rational Test Control Panel.

Note: When domain-level security is enabled, the Usage page is only visible to users with the Rational Test Control Panel system administrator role. When LDAP or Active Directory is in use, the system administrator role is assigned to user groups by the user who installs Rational Test Control Panel. For more information about domain-level security, see Security considerations for Rational Test Control Panel.
Environments

Opens a page that shows a list of domains and their associated environments. For more information, see Managing environments.

Library

Opens a page that shows a list of recorded events that are exported from Rational Integration Tester to Rational Test Control Panel. For more information, see Managing recorded events data.

Tools Opens a page that lists the Rational Integration Tester tool packages that must be installed and configured on the host systems to enable Rational Integration Tester to work with other technologies, for example, the supported transports. For more information, see Rational Integration Tester tool packages.
Examples Opens a collection of example APIs that can be used when learning to use Rational Integration Tester.
Administration Opens a page on which you can do the following tasks:
  • Manage various roles of the users. For details, see Manage users.
  • Enable or disable domain-level security. For details, see Enabling and disabling domain-level security.
  • Create and manage domains and view environments associated with them. For details, see Domain management.
  • View the audit, activity, and diagnostic logs of Rational Test Control Panel, if you are a Rational Test Control Panel administrator. For details, see Viewing logs.
Note: The numbers of tabs displayed on the Administration page depends on whether you are a Rational Test Control Panel administrator or a "normal" user.
Other useful functions
Rational Test Control Panel logo or the Home navigation link Opens the home page of the Rational Test Control Panel.

<User name> navigation link

If the built-in security model of Rational Test Control Panel is used, you can change the login password at any time irrespective of your Rational Test Control Panel user privileges. For details, see Changing your login password and default domain and Security model.
Help navigation link
  • Examples link: Displays details of the web service and REST examples that are supplied with Rational Test Control Panel.

  • Help link: Opens IBM Rational Integration Tester the product documentation in the Knowledge Center.

  • About link: Displays software version information.

Domain list

Displays a list of available domains. For more information, see Domain management.

Support for standard web browser functionality

  • You can use a web browser’s Back and Forward buttons for navigation.
  • You can bookmark most areas of Rational Test Control Panel for quick access to common locations. For example, if you regularly use a particular domain/environment pair on the Environments page, you bookmark it. Next time you log in to Rational Test Control Panel, it is displayed directly without you having to click the Environments icon or link on the Rational Test Control Panel Home page.
  • Most Rational Test Control Panel pages have a five-second timer and relevant status information is refreshed in the background. To reload a page, click your browser’s Reload button, or click the last navigation link ("breadcrumb") in the navigation bar under the logo on the Rational Test Control Panel application window.
