Installing WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 test environment extension

This topic provides the instructions for installing the IBM® WebSphere® Application Server, version 7.0 Test Environment extensions.

Before you begin

Extensions are packages that extend the function of other packages. Extensions cannot be installed without also installing the prerequisite packages. You can install the prerequisite package either before or at the same time that you install the extension.

This topic describes the scenario in which IBM Rational® Software Architect Designer is already installed.

Before installing a WebSphere Application Server Test Environment extension, do the following things:
  • Log on with the same user ID that was used to install Rational Software Architect Designer.
  • Ensure that you have the following feature installed for Rational Software Architect Designer: WebSphere Application Server Development > WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 development toolsTo confirm that these features are installed, start IBM Installation Manager and click File > View Installed Packages.
  • If you want Installation Manager to search for the latest available version of the WebSphere Application Server Test Environment, ensure that you are connected to the Internet.
Tip: There are separate installation files or disks for the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0.x test environment extensions. Ensure that you download the files for the bit-mode that you want to install.
To install the 64-bit editions of the WebSphere Application Server test environment extensions, the target computer must be a 64-bit system running a 64-bit Windows or Linux operating system.
Restriction: You cannot co-install 32-bit WebSphere Application Server test environment, version 7.0.x and 64-bit WebSphere Application Server test environment, version 7.0.x

To enable Installation Manager to search for the latest available version of the software that you are installing, ensure that you are connected to the Internet.

Procedure

  1. If Rational Software Architect Designer is running, stop the software.
  2. If you are starting from the Setup disk, do one of the following steps:
    • If you are installing as an Admin:
      1. Start the launchpad.
      2. Click Install IBM Rational Software Architect Designer.
    • If you are installing as a non-Admin: Start the installation from the Setup disk by running the userinst program.
    Note: If a new version of Installation Manager is found, you are prompted to confirm that you want to install it before you can continue. Click OK to proceed. Installation Manager automatically installs the new version, stops, restarts, and resumes.
    IBM Installation Manager starts.
  3. The first page of the Install Packages wizard shows the packages that you can install. To search for updates to the package, click Check for Other Versions and Extensions.
  4. Select the WebSphere Application Server Test Environment versions that you want to install.
  5. Clear the IBM Rational Software Architect Designer selection, and then click Next.
  6. On the Location page in the Package Group Name column, click the package group that you want to install the extensions into and then click Next. You must install the WebSphere Application Server test environment extension into a package group that contains IBM Rational Software Architect Designer.
  7. On the Features page, select the features that you want to install. Click the feature to see more information about it in the Details section of the page. When you are finished, click Next.
  8. The Configuration of the WebSphere Application Server page opens. Complete the following steps:
    1. In the left column under the version of WebSphere Application Server Test Environment extension, click Configuring the WebSphere Application Server.
    2. Either leave the default selection Create a profile to create a profile for the application server test environment or clear it if you want to create the profile later. You can create a profile using the workbench: Click Window > Preference > Server > WebSphere Application Server.
      Note: If you are the root user and are installing for a non-root user, then do not create a profile at this time and request that the non-root user to create the profile later in the workbench.
    3. If you selected to create a profile in the previous step, then do the following things:
      1. Type a profile name and profile path in the corresponding fields or accept the default entries.
        Note: If you are installing as a non-Admin user on Windows, then you might see a message that the profile path exceeded the maximum length of 80 characters. If this error occurs, type a shorter profile path. For example, type user.home/IBM/profiles/was70profile1 instead of user.home/IBM/SDP/runtimes/base_v7/profiles/was70profile1.
      2. By default, the option Enable administrative security on the profile is selected. Clear this selection if you do not want to enable security on the profile. Otherwise, type a user ID and password in the corresponding fields.
    4. Click Next.
  9. On the Summary page, review your choices before installing the product package. If you want to change the choices that you made on previous pages, click Back and make your changes. When you are satisfied with your installation choices, click Install to install the package. A progress indicator shows the percentage of the installation completed.
  10. When the installation process is complete, a message confirms the success of the process.
    1. Click View log file to open the installation log file for the current session in a new window. You must close the Installation Log window to continue.
    2. In the Install Package wizard, select whether you want the product to start when you exit.
    3. Click Finish to launch the selected package. The Install Package wizard closes and you are returned to the Start page of Installation Manager.
  11. Close Installation Manager.
