You can configure the
system to write messages to the log
file whenever it detects that certain events occurred.
Messages that are triggered
by events, called alerts, inform you
about conditions that you might want to address, such as a resource
that is running out of free space. When you configure alerts, you
specify the conditions that you want the system to monitor. Whenever
the condition occurs, the system automatically writes a message to
the log file.
If you want to be notified directly about a condition,
you can
specify options to receive email whenever one of the monitored messages
is logged.
You can configure alerts for collection-level events
and for events
that occur at the system level. At the collection level, the system
can:
- Monitor the number of documents that each crawler crawls,
and
issue an alert message when the maximum number of documents allowed
is about to be reached.
- Monitor the number of documents being
added to the index for your
collections, and issue an alert message when the maximum number of
documents allowed is about to be reached.
- Inform you when
the time that is required to respond to search
requests is exceeding a limit that you specify.
At the system
level, the system can monitor the disk space on
each server and issue an alert message when the amount of free space
is low.
