Configuring notifications about crucial events

You can configure License Metric Tool to send email notifications about crucial events that require your action. These events include the appearance of computers that require troubleshooting, the appearance of new components whose assignment needs to be reviewed and confirmed, and exceeded thresholds of license metric utilization. Thanks to these notifications, you can stay up to date with your work without the need of checking License Metric Tool itself.

Before you begin

Ensure that the License Metric Tool server is configured to send mail notifications. For more information, see: Configuring the server to send mail notifications.

About this task

Important: Notifications are sent only about computers on which the BigFix® client or the disconnected scanner is installed. There is no notification about computers that exist in your infrastructure but are not discovered by License Metric Tool.

Procedure

  • To set up notifications about computers that require troubleshooting, perform the following steps.
    1. In the top navigation bar, go to Reports > Computers.
    2. From the list of saved report views on the left, select Computers with Issues.
    3. Set up email notifications to be sent whenever the number of rows on the report exceeds one or according to your preferences. This type of notification should be sent to Infrastructure Administrators. For more information, see: Scheduling report emails.
  • To set up notifications about newly discovered components whose assignment needs confirming, perform the following steps.
    1. In the top navigation bar, go to Reports > Software Classification.
    2. From the list of saved report views on the left, select IBM Software - Pending Classification.
    3. Set up email notifications to be sent whenever the number of rows on the report exceeds one or according to your preferences. This type of notification should be sent to Software Asset Managers. For more information, see: Scheduling report emails.
  • To set up notifications about license thresholds that are exceeded, perform the following steps.
    1. In the top navigation bar, go to Reports > All Metrics.
    2. From the list of saved report views on the left, select Exceeded Thresholds.
    3. Set up email notifications to be sent whenever the number of rows on the report exceeds one or according to your preferences. This type of notification should be sent to Software Asset Managers. For more information, see: Scheduling report emails.

Results

You are notified whenever an item that requires your action appears in License Metric Tool.

What to do next
