Upgrading your IBM Case Manager system
To benefit from the enhanced Workflow Center, while preserving your existing case data and navigator configuration, you can augment your case installation with an IBM® Business Automation Workflow topology.

There are two approaches for upgrading your IBM Case
Manager system to Business Automation Workflow.
- Recommended approach for all environments: Upgrade IBM Case
Manager to Business Automation Workflow, but keep the IBM Case
Manager environment as it is. This approach
minimizes the impact on other IBM products that use the IBM Content
Navigator. For production environments,
because of performance requirements, you must use this approach.This approach reuses the following components:
- Content Platform Engine
- Content Platform Engine database
- IBM Content Navigator
- IBM Content Navigator database
- Optional approach for non-production environments: Upgrade IBM Case
Manager to Business Automation Workflow and use the IBM Content
Navigator embedded in Business Automation Workflow. With this approach, the changes to the IBM Case
Manager environment are smaller, but you will
need to reconfigure other systems that rely on IBM Content
Navigator. You can use this approach only for
non-production environments. This approach reuses the following components:
- Content Platform Engine
- Content Platform Engine database
- IBM Content Navigator database
