Deprecated and removed features of IBM Business Monitor V8.5.5

IBM® Business Monitor V8.5.5 extends capabilities that are found in previous versions of IBM Business Monitor and WebSphere® Business Monitor. Some features of those other products or previous versions are deprecated or removed in IBM Business Monitor V8.5.5.

Deprecated features

If a function is listed here as deprecated, or certain system requirements are indicated as deprecated on the Software Product Compatibility Reports website, IBM might remove this capability or support in a subsequent release of the product to focus on follow-on technologies or the strategic function that is listed under Action. Typically, a function is not deprecated unless an equivalent alternative is provided or available. A function is not removed for at least two releases after the deprecation of the function is declared. In rare cases, it might be necessary to remove functions sooner; such cases are indicated in the descriptions of these removed functions.

The following items from previous releases are deprecated in IBM Business Monitor V8.5.5:
Table 1. Deprecated features for IBM Business Monitor V8.5.5
Deprecated functions Description Action
Common Event Infrastructure (CEI) and Common Base Events Use of CEI and Common Base Events is deprecated.

In previous releases, CEI provided basic event management services, such as event generation, transmission, persistence, and consumption. The format of the events was defined by the Common Base Event specification, which provided a standard XML-based format for business events, system events, and performance information.

New monitor models that are generated in the Monitor model editor do not use CEI and do not conform to the Common Base Event format. The new monitor models use Dynamic Event Framework.

Use the Dynamic Event Framework, as described in Configuring Business Monitor to receive events from IBM BPM V8.5.5.
Global process monitor model The global process monitor model for monitoring processes that are running in IBM Business Process Manager is deprecated. Either use the IBM BPM built-in dashboards or create a custom monitor model. For more information, see Dashboards or Developing monitor models.
Mobile dashboard for BlackBerry Support for BlackBerry mobile devices is deprecated. None.
Support for custom iWidgets Support for custom iWidgets is deprecated.

Removed features

The following items from previous releases are removed in IBM Business Monitor 8.5.5:
Table 2. Removed features for IBM Business Monitor 8.5.5
Removed functions Description Action
Export Values widget Support for the Export Values widget, which exported the values of business measures in a monitor model to an XML file, is removed. Use one of the following approaches to export the values:
Sametime Connect plug-in The IBM Business Monitor plug-in for Sametime Connect, which was used for viewing alerts, key performance indicators (KPIs), and instances within Sametime, is removed. Use the IBM Business Monitor dashboards to view your data.
Support for 32-bit operating systems IBM Business Monitor 8.5.5 now supports new installations only 64-bit operating systems.

By running IBM Business Monitor on a 64-bit operating system, you can more easily meet performance and scalability demands.

If necessary, upgrade your system to meet this requirement.
Database design generator tool The database design generator tools DbDesignGenerator.bat and DbDesignGenerator.sh are removed. Using the database design generator tool was optional. Enter the information about your database directly into the Profile Management Tool, or the response file that is passed to the monConfig tool.

For more information about using the Profile Management Tool, see Creating and augmenting profiles for IBM Business Monitor using the Profile Management Tool.

Queue-based event delivery The option to use a queue after DEF is removed. You can still send events to DEF via a queue (SIB or MQ). But after it has arrived, it can only be table based. For more information about table-based event delivery, see Receiving events in Business Monitor.
Support for configuring IBM BPM and IBM Business Monitor to run in the same cell IBM BPM and IBM Business Monitor must run in different cells. Configure IBM BPM and IBM Business Monitor in different cells.
Action Services ability to invoke SCA service It is not possible for a situation event to cause Business Monitor action services to call an SCA service because IBM Business Monitor and IBM BPM are no longer in the same cell. Configure the action service to call a web service instead.
IBM BPM sending events in pre-XML formats Support for IBM BPM sending events in pre-XML formats is removed. Use the XML format for event messages. For more information about using the XML format for event messages, see REST event emitter interface (XML).
