IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search, Version 3.0.0

Planning for installation

Before you install IBM® Content Analytics with Enterprise Search review the system requirements, especially if you plan to use IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search with other products.

System requirements

Ensure that you have the supported operating system, required software, and adequate memory and hard disk space before you run the installation program. To use the crawlers that are installed with the product, ensure that the data sources that you want to search are supported.

IBM InfoSphere BigInsights requirements

On a Linux 64-bit system, you can add an IBM InfoSphere® BigInsights server to the system topology to support large scale analysis and indexing of content, such as for a collection that contains terabytes of data.

If you plan to integrate with IBM InfoSphere BigInsights, ensure that you install the IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search data directory (ES_NODE_ROOT) on a shared file system. In addition, ensure that the same administrator ID is used for IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search and BigInsights.

For more information about installing and integrating the products, see Integrating with IBM InfoSphere BigInsights

WebSphere Application Server requirements

When you install IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search, you can specify that you want to use WebSphere® Application Server. If you do not want to use WebSphere Application Server, the embedded web application server is used.

If you use WebSphere Application Server, ensure that a supported version of the base software and the supplemental software (IBM HTTP Server and Web Server Plug-ins) is installed before you run the IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search installation program. When you run the IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search installation program, you must provide the installation paths and other information about WebSphere Application Server.

If you enable global security in WebSphere Application Server, ensure that the user name that you specify as the default IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search administrator is registered in the user registry for your LDAP server. The first time that you access the IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search administration console, you must log in as this default master administrator. Authentication for all administrative and application users that you add to the system is handled through WebSphere Application Server global security.

To take advantage of performance and other enhancements, you might want to install or upgrade to WebSphere Application Server Version 8.0 before you run the IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search installation program. The product package provides physical media and electronic images for the base WebSphere Application Server software and the supplemental software.

For WebSphere Application Server installation instructions, see the WebSphere Application Server Information Center.

For information about all the supported versions of WebSphere Application Server, see the requirements for IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search.

IBM Content Integrator integration

You can use the Content Integrator crawler to crawl various types of IBM Content Integrator data sources, such as Hummingbird and Documentum. To search these data sources, a supported version of IBM Content Integrator must be installed. You can install this software before or after you run the installation program for IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search.

For information about the supported versions of IBM Content Integrator and the data sources that you can crawl with the Content Integrator crawler, see the data sources supported by IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search.

IBM Content Classification integration

You can improve search quality by using the Content Classification annotator that is provided with IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search. You can also train Content Classification knowledge bases and improve classification over time by importing analyzed content that you export from IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search.

For information about installing IBM Content Classification, see the IBM Content Classification Information Center.
