Memory allocation request for image backup operation was refused by the operating system.
Explanation
Tivoli Storage Manager requires access to memory in order to store information about used blocks of a file system. In this case, more memory was requested than the operating system would allocate.
System action
If imagegapsize is too small for a dedicated filesystem and Tivoli Storage Manager faces out-of-memory condition then Tivoli Storage Manager automatically switches to full volume backup. Operation continues with imagegapsize = 0.
User response
Some recommendations to avoid the out-of-memory condition:
- check to see if the memory resource limit is too low by entering the following command: ulimit -a Then you can ask the UNIX system root user to increase memory limit.
- increase the value of the imagegapsize option. The bigger imagegapsize is used, the less memory is needed for image backup, but more unused data is sent to server. And vice versa: the smaller imagegapsize is used, the more memory is needed for backup, but less unused data is sent to server. The outcome also depends much on how data is spread on the volume.
