Enabling the source and destination mover service partitions

You can enable the mover service partition (MSP) attribute on a Virtual I/O Server logical partition by using the Hardware Management Console (HMC).

You must be a super administrator or operator to complete this task.

There must be at least one MSP on the source and destination servers for the mobile partition to participate in active partition mobility. If the MSP is disabled on either the source or the destination Virtual I/O Server (VIOS), the mobile partition can participate only in inactive partition mobility.

To enable the source and destination MSP using the HMC, complete the following steps:

  1. In the navigation pane, open Systems Management and select Servers.
  2. Select the managed server of your choice in the navigation pane.
  3. In the work pane, select a VIOS logical partition and select Properties.
  4. In the General tab, select Mover Service Partition, and click OK.

The HMC Classic interface is not supported in Hardware Management Console (HMC) Version 8.7.0, or later. The functions that were previously available in the HMC Classic interface are now available in the HMC Enhanced+ interface.

When the HMC is at version 8.7.0, or later, complete the following steps to enable the source and destination MSP:
    1. In the navigation pane, click the Resources icon The icon represents the Resources function of the HMC.
    2. Click All Virtual I/O Servers. Alternatively, click All Systems. In the work pane, click the server name that has the logical partition. Click View System Properties. In the PowerVM area, click Virtual I/O Servers.
    3. In the work pane, select the VIOS partition and click Actions > View Virttual I/O Server Properties.
    4. Click the Advanced tab. Select the Mover Service Partition check box and click OK.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the destination server.
