Operations Console software requirements

Review the supported operating systems and other software requirements to correctly run your Operations Console.

IBM® i Access Client Solutions supports 5250 console and virtual control panel connections from a PC running Linux, Mac, and Windows environments. Java™ 6, or later must be pre-installed.

Microsoft Windows environments can use PC5250 in IBM i Access for Windows (7.1) or IBM Personal Communications (V5.7 CSD1, or later) to make a 5250 console connection from a PC running Windows 7.

Note: If you use software that enables Sockets Secure (SOCKS) on your PC (the PC accesses the Internet through a firewall, such as Microsoft Proxy Client, Hummingbird SOCKS Client, NEC SOCKS 5, or others), you cannot route the subnet for 192.168.0.0 to the firewall. Operations Console uses addresses 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.0.255. Incorrect routing causes Operations Console to fail. Check your SOCKS configuration and verify that the entry is:
Direct 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0
Use the Operations Console properties window to change the IP base address from 192.168.0.2. For example, you can use 192.168.1.2.

Data encryption for a local console on a network (LAN)

Operations Console network connections use a version of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), which supports device and user authentication without using certificates. By default, Operations Console uses the strongest encryption possible for authentication and data.
