Updating the system firmware by using the BMC

Learn how to update the system firmware by using the baseboard management controller (BMC).

Note: System firmware update is supported only on Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers. Use Google Chrome Version 46.0.2490.71 m or Mozilla Firefox version 41.0.3.

To update the system firmware, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to the BMC entering your username and password. Then, press Enter.
  2. From the Maintenance list on the dashboard, select Preserve Configuration.
  3. From the preserve configuration item list, select IPMI and Network. Then, press Save.
  4. From the Firmware Update list on the dashboard, select Firmware Update.
  5. From the firmware type list, select HPM and press Continue. In the confirmation window, click OK.
  6. The firmware update page shows which components are overwritten or preserved. Ensure that IPMI and Network preserve status indicates "Preserve". Click Continue. In the confirmation window, click OK.
    Note: You cannot perform other activities by using the BMC interface until the firmware update is complete.
  7. In the window that appears browse and select the HPM firmware image to flash from your local disk. Then, click OK.
  8. A window appears showing a list of components that will be updated. Ensure that the Update All check box is selected. Then, click Proceed.
  9. After the firmware update is completed, the system will perform a reboot. After the reboot is complete, verify the firmware revision level in the dashboard device information.
