Error description
As currently configured, CICS Interdependency Analyzer provides numerous results to a Show Connections query. It would be helpful if there was a way to whittle down these results to easily get the desired data. This could be completed via: 1.) Stop the query after 'n' number of connections, showing the user the number of connections displayed. 2.) Have the number of connections be a configurable option with a default that could be updated. 3.) Get Next capability that would allow you to access the next logical connection. 4.) Specify a range of connections. For example, if there are 100,000 connections, allow the capability for the customer to see numbers 9,900 - 15,000. 5.) Povide information on the actual total of the records. For example, if a screen displays the first 1000 records, and there are actuall 4000 records, we would indicate the screen is displaying 1-1000 out of 40,000 records. Local fix
Problem summary
The CICS Interdependency Analyzer Plug-in Resource Connections View loads all the resources related to a current Resource Connections graph, in memory. This is done even though most of the resource types are hidden by default. The user can then select some additional resource types in the Resource Filter pane, which will immediately display them on the graph (because these resources were already loaded in memory but hidden from view). When the data base contained a very large number of resources then loading all resources in advance in this way could cause the workbench to run out of memory and crash.
Problem conclusion
The fix allows the user to make a step by step Resource discovery, when initially only those resources that are essential for building the connections graph are loaded (These are Programs and Transactions). After that, the user can select additional resource types using the Resource filter pane, and only load them, without loading the whole graph at a time. The plug-in will display a warning message, when too many resources have been loaded, preventing the workbench from crashing. The Resource Connections View now always shows the context of the current resources graph (The Region/Platform and Application which contained the initial Program/Transaction for the Resource Connections analysis). Prior to this fix, this context was implied, but the scoping Region/Platform and Application weren't displayed, making difficult for the user to understand how the resource connections graph is restricted. As in previous version, selecting All Regions, All Platforms, All Applications resource filters would expand the search context to all corresponding objects, showing multiple graphs grouped in boxes. The fix will be made available in version 5.2.0.3 of the CICS Explorer Interdependency Analyzer plug-in.
