Correction to setup executable file name and installation directory paths

The installation program for Data Protection for Exchange Server, setup.exe, is renamed to spinstall.exe. To successfully install Data Protection for Exchange Server V8.1.0, use the corrected setup executable file name and directory paths that are detailed here.

Topic Updated setup executable name and directory paths
Installing and configuring Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange ServerThe correct name for the executable file is package_name.exe, where package_name is like this example:
  • 8.1.0.0-TIV-TSMEXC-Win.exe
Installing Data Protection for Exchange Server on a local systemThe correct name for the executable file is package_name.exe, where package_name is like this example:
  • 8.1.0.0-TIV-TSMEXC-Win.exe
Silently installing Data Protection for Exchange Server with the setup programTo silently install Data Protection for Exchange Server, you must install two components: Data Protection for Exchange Server Management Console and Data Protection for Exchange Server.

The corrected setup executable file and directory paths are:

Data Protection for Exchange Server Management Console setup program:
  • (64-bit) x:\fcm\x64\mmc\8100\enu\spinstall.exe
Data Protection for Exchange Server setup program:
  • (64-bit) x:\fcm\x64\exc\8100\enu\spinstall.exe

To silently install both components to the default installation directories, the corrected setup executable file and directory paths are:
  • (64-bit) x:\fcm\x64\mmc\8100\enu\spinstall.exe /s /v/qn
  • (64-bit) x:\fcm\x64\exc\8100\enu\spinstall.exe /s /v/qn
Batch files usage in silent installationsYou can create a batch file to begin the silent installation with the parameters that you want to use (sample script name: c:\spinstall.bat).

The corrected paths to silently install both Data Protection for Exchange Server components are:
  • x:\fcm\x64\mmc\8100\enu\spinstall.exe
  • x:\fcm\x64\exc\8100\enu\spinstall.exe
Silently installing Data Protection for Exchange Server with the Microsoft Installer program Unlike the spinstall.exe program, and setupfcm.exe programs, the msiexec.exe program does not include some prerequisites that are installed by Data Protection for Exchange Server. When you use msiexec.exe, you must install all prerequisites manually.

The corrected path to install Microsoft Management Console (MMC) using the Microsoft Installer (MSI) program, msiexec.exe is:

msiexec /i"x:\fcm\x64\mmc\8100\enu\IBM Spectrum Protect for Mail
- MS Exchange - Management Console.msi" RebootYesNo="No"
Reboot="Suppress" ALLUSERS=1 INSTALLDIR="c:\program files\tivoli"
ADDLOCAL="Client" TRANSFORM=1033.mst /qn /l*v "c:\temp\DpExcMmcLog.txt"

The corrected path to install Data Protection for Exchange Server using the Microsoft Installer (MSI) program, msiexec.exe is:

msiexec /i"x:\fcm\x64\exc\8100\enu\IBM Spectrum Protect for Mail
- MS Exchange.msi" RebootYesNo="No" Reboot="Suppress" ALLUSERS=1
INSTALLDIR="c:\program files\tivoli\tsm" ADDLOCAL="Client"
TRANSFORM=1033.mst /qn /l*v "c:\temp\DpExcLog.txt"
Creating and testing a silent installation package on a DVD or a file serverThe setup.bat file is renamed to spinstall.bat.

Clarification about RBAC permissions when running scheduled backup and restore operations of Microsoft Exchange server

When you use the IBM Spectrum Protect scheduler service to run scheduled backup and restore operations of the Microsoft Exchange server, the following access permissions are necessary:
  • The IBM Spectrum Protect scheduler service must be run under a user account that is a member of the Exchange Organization Management group.
  • The user account must have the sufficient role-based access control (RBAC) permissions to run the scheduled tasks.

The IBM Spectrum Protect task scheduler topic in the IBM Spectrum Protect for Mail: Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange book will be updated with this clarification.
