This is the second edition of this readme, dated 27 February 2015
The latest service level is known as the -> MDV 8.0.0.2 <- set of PTFs.


You can verify your current service level for MQ by calling program DSPMQMVER using command
CALL QMQM/DSPMQVER. The same information is visible in the prolog section of WebSphere MQ FDC
reports.
For MFT, the current service level can be determined by going into QSHELL and calling the following
program from path /QIBM/ProdData/mqm/bin:
fteDisplayVersion -v

MDV 8.0.0.2 is a Fix Pack, which comprises seventeen PTFs
- ten for IBM MQ (BASE) for IBM i (5724H72)

- one for IBM MQ Java Messaging and Web Services (library QMQMJAVA) (5724L26)
- one for IBM MQ Java Messaging and Web Services Samples for IBM i (5724L26)

- one for IBM MQ - Managed File Transfer (BASE) (5725M50)

- one for IBM MQ - Managed File Transfer Tools (5725M50 Opt 2)

- one for IBM MQ - Managed File Transfer Agent (5725M50 Opt 3)

PTF SI55767 has been designated as the 'marker' PTF for MDV 8.0.0.2. Ordering a Group PTF will
deliver a complete set of (seventeen) PTFs. Alternatively, ordering SI55767 will deliver all eleven PTFs
for product 5724H7206 and the two PTFs for product 5724L2620 (WebSphere MQ Java/JMS), if installed.
IBM MFT PTF's will need to be ordered and downloaded separately depending on which options are
installed.

You can apply the PTFs for each product in any order. But, before applying the PTFs for product
5724H72, you MUST fully quiesce all Queue Managers. Read the cover letter which accompanies the
marker PTF, for a complete set of instructions.
Additionally, before applying PTF's for product 5725M50, all MFT agents must be ended as well as the
QMFT subsystem.

The complete set of Group PTFs comprises:

* SF99359 - IBM i V7R1 - WebSphere MQ for IBM i 7.1
* SF99759 - IBM i V7R2 - IBM MQ for IBM i 7.2

For MQ option *BASE - you must apply ALL ten MQ BASE PTFs.

For MQ option 1 - SI55772 (optional) will re-ship library QMQMSAMP
and directory /QIBM/ProdData/mqm/samp

For WebSphere MQ Java Client - SI55778 reships library QMQMJAVA and
/QIBM/ProdData/mqm/java

For WebSphere MQ Java option 1 - SI55779 (optional) reships directory
/QIBM/ProdData/mqm/java/samples

For MFT option *BASE - apply SI55780

For MFT option 2 - apply SI55781

For MFT option 3 - apply SI55782

For MFT option 4 - apply SI55783

Note: There is no MFT option 1, it has been intentionally omitted.

BEFORE UPDATING your WebSphere MQ service level, you -> MUST <- quiesce all Queue Manager
activity. A suggested procedure is included in the PTF Special Instructions. With this Fix Pack it is
especially important to clear up shared memory.

The latest set of PTFs incorporate a PTF exit program, which will
log error on apply PTF or remove PTF operation if subsystem QMQM/QMFT is still
active or one or more Queue Manager jobs are still running.

1.4 HIPER APARs

There are no HIPER APARs shipped in this service update.


1.5 CUM packages

All PTFs in this service update are being withheld from all IBM i cume packages to prevent an
unintended upgrade of IBM MQ on systems which have WebSphere Application Services
installed.


1.6 Error messages logged by APYPTF or RMVPTF

All ten *BASE PTF's and the Sample PTF use a PTF exit program called AMQIPTFX. If IBM
MQ has not been fully quiesced AND subsystem QMQM has not been shut down, then performing
APYPTF or RMVPTF will not run to completion and AMQIPTFX will log the messages shown below:

INFO Using exit program AMQIPTFX.1.6 for product 5724H72 and PTF SIxxxxx
CPF1010 Subsystem name QMQM active.
AMQ6903 Installation failed, WebSphere MQ resources are still active.

All four MFT PTF's also utilize PTF exits which will log an error if subsystem QMFT has not been shut
down. APYPTF or RMVPTF will not run to completion and will log the messages shown below:

Starting calling PTF exit program for MFT *BASE
Subsystem QMFT is running Please end all the MFT jobs and Subsystem before
APPLY/REMOVE PTF.
Exit program failed, but made no permanent changes.

1.7 Language objects shipped via Fixpack

A tenth *BASE PTF (SI55777) is being shipped with this fixpack which will apply language object
changes for all languages installed for WMQ at the time of the fixpack apply. If a language is
installed after this fixpack, then this PTF will need to be removed and re-applied. This PTF will contain
the following symptom string when displaying PTF details:

"MQM400 CUMULATIVE #80002 FIX PACK (WMQ V8.0.0 LANGUAGE)"

This PTF cannot be applied delayed at IPL time due to a problem with the PTF exit processing code.
Therefore if the MQ PTF's are being applied delayed, this PTF will need to be applied *IMMED as a
delayed apply will fail and cause all other MQ PTF's to not be applied delayed. This will be addressed in
a future manufacturing respin of the MQ LPP.
