Installing an Intelligent Operations Center 1.6 APAR using the APAR installer

Product Documentation

Abstract

IBM Intelligent Operations Center 1.6 provided an APAR installer with APAR PO01119. This document describes how to use the APAR installer after APAR PO01119 is applied to the IBM Intelligent Operations Center environment.

Content

IMPORTANT: Make sure IBM Intelligent Operations Center is running before installing APARs, unless explicitly stated otherwise in the APAR readme.

Step 1: Enable remote root login if disabled
Repeat the following steps for each of the four standard environment IBM Intelligent Operations Center servers: application server, analytics server, data server, and web server or eight high availability IBM Intelligent Operations Center servers: application server 1, application server 2, analytics server 1, analytics server 2, data server 1, data server 2, web server 1, and web server 2

1. Login to the server as the ibmadmin user.
2. Run the command sudo su - to switch to the root user.
3. Edit the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file in a text editor.
4. Find the line containing PermitRootLogin.
5. If the value is "no", change the value to "yes", save the file, and run the command service sshd restart

Step 2: Install IBM Intelligent Operations Center APAR fixes

1. Login to the analytics server (in a standard environment) or analytics server 1 (in a high availability environment) as user root.
2. Download the files for the interim fixes to be installed. Only interim fixes with the prerequisite of APAR PO01119 can be installed using the APAR installer.
3. Copy the interim fix zip files into the following directory:

[install_home]/ioc16/tools/aparInstaller/maintenance

where [install_home] is the original IBM Intelligent Operations Center 1.6 installation directory. For example: /opt/ibm/IOC16install

(For example, the zip file for APAR PO01719 is:
1.6.0-Other-IBMIOC-Linux-PO01719.zip
)

4. Run the following command:

cd [install_home]/ioc16/tools/aparInstaller

where [install_home] is the original IBM Intelligent Operations Center 1.6 installation directory. For example: /opt/ibm/IOC16install

5. Run the following command:

./update.sh -f
[topology_properties_file] -t [environment_type]  -p [password]

where:
[topology_properties_file] is the file name with path information to the topology properties file. For example:  /opt/IBM/IOCinstall/ioc16/install/topology/iop.std.properties.

[environment_type] is either std (if the environment is a standard environment) or ha (if the environment is a high availability environment. Note: std and ha must be specified in lowercase letters.

[password] is the topology password.

The interim fixes are installed.

Step 3: Disable remote root login if enabled in step 1

Repeat the following steps for each of the four standard environment IBM Intelligent Operations Center servers: application server, analytics server, data server and web server, or eight high availability IBM Intelligent Operations Center servers: application server 1, application server 2, analytics server 1, analytics server 2, data server 1, data server 2, web server 1, and web server 2

1. Login to the server as the ibmadmin user.
2. Run the command sudo su - to switch to the root user.
3. Edit the file /etc/ssh/sshd_config in a text editor.
4. Find the line containing PermitRootLogin.
5. Change the value to "no", save the file, and run the command service sshd restart
