Product Readmes
Abstract
Readme files for IBM Spectrum Protect™ for Space Management and IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager for Space Management are available when there is a fix pack update.
Tip: Beginning with Version 7.1.3, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management is now IBM Spectrum Protect for Space Management. Some applications such as the software fulfillment systems and IBM License Metric Tool use the new product name. However, the software and its product documentation continue to use the Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management product name. To learn more about the rebranding transition, see http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21963634.

Updates
- HSM runs on IBM Spectrum Scale for Linux on z Systems.
- You can migrate files that take up no data blocks on the file system.
IBM Spectrum Scale™ is based on IBM General Parallel File System (GPFS™ ) technology. For information about which levels of GPFS and which Linux distributions are required for HSM on z Systems, see technote 1966164.
The hsmmigzeroblockfiles option specifies whether files that take up no data blocks on the file system can be migrated. By default, the files are migrated if they meet migration criteria. Before V7.1.4, such small files were not migrated.
Place the hsmmigzeroblockfiles option at the beginning of the dsm.sys file before any server stanzas.
If you specify hsmmigzeroblockfiles yes (the default value), files that allocate zero data blocks in the file system, but have a logical size greater than zero, can be migrated.
If you specify hsmmigzeroblockfiles no, files that allocate zero data blocks in the file system cannot be migrated.
Updates and known problems are documented in the form of technotes in the Support knowledge base at http://www.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/Overview/Software/Tivoli/Tivoli_Storage_Manager. As problems are discovered and resolved, IBM software support updates the knowledge base. By searching the knowledge base, you can quickly find workarounds or solutions to problems. For a list of known problems that affect IBM Spectrum Protect for Space Management, see technote 1646985.
