About fix pack and prerequisites

Problems addressed in this fix pack

The fixes addressed in V7.5.1 Fix Pack 1 are explained in the Fix List for Business Process Manager products and WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus document.

Fix pack prerequisites

To use this fix pack, you must have the following version of IBM Business Process Manager Express, IBM Business Process Manager Standard, IBM Business Process Manager Advanced, or IBM Business Process Manager Advanced - Process Server installed:

  • 7.5.0.0
  • 7.5.0.1
  • 7.5.1.0

You must also either have the following levels for WebSphere Application Server and its feature packs installed or must install the following levels of WebSphere Application Server and its feature packs during the upgrade:
  • WebSphere Application Server V7.0.0 Fix Pack 25
  • WebSphere Application Server V7 Feature Pack for XML V1.0.0 Fix Pack 13
  • WebSphere Application Server V7 Feature Pack for Service Component Architecture (SCA) V1.0.1 Fix Pack 15

These downloads are available through the Required interim fixes for IBM Business Process Management products document.

If you already have the WebSphere Application Server Version 7.0 Feature Packs installed, you still must have the repositories available and open when you are installing 7.5.1 Fix Pack 1. If you do not have them available, you will receive errors about not being about to synchronize the product installs.

Note: The feature pack repository that is available must be at the same fix level as you have already installed.

Hardware and software prerequisites for IBM Business Process Manager Express, IBM Business Process Manager Standard, IBM Business Process Manager Advanced, and IBM Business Process Manager Advanced - Process Server are available on the web on their respective Hardware and Software Support pages.

Installing the fix pack

Upgrade instructions for installations with existing profiles

If you have been using IBM Business Process Manager Express, IBM Business Process Manager Standard, IBM Business Process Manager Advanced, or IBM Business Process Manager Advanced - Process Server V7.5.0.0, V7.5.0 Fix Pack 1 or V7.5.1.0 and you have created profiles, additional steps are required. Also, if you installed the product using the Typical installation, a profile was created and you need to follow these steps. These steps include backing up the profile, stopping all Java™ processes, and sequencing the upgrade. Before you continue with the fix pack installation, see the Upgrade Instructions for installations with existing profiles document for details on these steps. Return to this document, when instructed, to complete the Version 7.5.1 Fix Pack 1 installation.

Important: The database upgrade steps are different when you are upgrading from IBM Business Process Manager Version 7.5.0.x to 7.5.1 Fix Pack 1 compared to IBM Business Process Manager Version 7.5.1.0 to 7.5.1 Fix Pack 1 . If you are migrating from Business Process Manager V7.5.0.x follow the instructions in the information center on Upgrading from IBM Business Process Manager V7.5 to IBM Business Process Manager V7.5.1

Important: Depending on the topology, the instructions for updating the profile vary. The product might not continue to run successfully if you do not follow the instructions that are provided in the Upgrade Instructions for installations with existing profiles document.

Network deployment environments

When you apply the fix pack in a network deployment environment, the connection to the deployment manager requires a user ID and password. Depending on your configuration, you might have to enter the credentials in a separate prompt near the end of the upgrade process.

Note: The credential panel displays twice during the upgrade process and has a default time out period of one minute. If you miss this prompt, your security configuration is set up such that a prompt is not displayed, or if you are running the silent installation script, follow the instructions in the Identifying profile update errors section.

If you do not want to monitor the upgrade progress, you can avoid this error by adding the WebSphere Application Server administrator user ID and password to the soap.client.props file.

For more information on how to configure security for WebSphere administration scripts, for which the WebSphere Process Server scripts depend, see configuring security with scripting in the WebSphere Application Server Information Center.

If the profile upgrade fails, follow the instructions in the Identifying profile update errors section on how to recover.

Installing V7.5.1 Fix Pack 1 (7.5.1.1)

If you have existing profiles under this installation, before you continue with the fix pack installation, see the Profile upgrade instructions for V7.5.1 Fix Pack 1 (V7.5.1.1) IBM Business Process Manager (BPM) product installations with existing profiles for details on the steps to follow for the various topologies. Return to this document, when instructed, to complete the Version 7.5.1 Fix Pack 1 installation.

If you have installed IBM Process Designer 7.5.0.0, 7.5.0 Fix Pack 1 or 7.5.1.0, you need to update your IBM Process Designer environment separately to V7.5.1 Fix Pack 1. For more information, see the Updating Instructions for IBM Process Designer V7.5.1 Fix Pack 1 (V7.5.1.1) document.

Download repositories to local system

The IBM Installation Manager must be at a minimum level of Version 1.5.2 before starting IBM Business Process Manager 7.5.1 Fix Pack 1 installation updates. The IBM Installation Manager will detect an available update if you are connected to the Internet on the workstation that you are planning to complete the IBM Business Process Manager 7.5.1 Fix Pack 1 update activities.
