Installing Fix Packs for IBM Worklight V5.0 with Passport Advantage

Abstract

Periodically or as necessary, fix packs will be published for IBM Worklight V5.0. Instructions are provided in this document to guide the installation process when using Passport Advantage.

The instructions in this document apply to leveraging Passport Advantage when installing either Worklight Studio or Worklight Server with IBM Installation Manager. A separate installation document contains instructions that do not involve Passport Advantage.

An existing installation may be upgraded with the fix pack, but instructions are also provided to install both the base version and fix pack concurrently. Regardless of that choice, IBM Installation Manager (version 1.5.2 or above) needs to be configured properly to handle the installation.

Note that when upgrading a Worklight Studio formerly installed with IBM Installation Manager, upgrades to that installation must also be done with IBM Installation Manager. The Eclipse P2 update version for an upgrade installation is not supported in that scenario.

Configuring IBM Installation Manager

Configure support for Passport Advantage using these instructions.

  1. Start IBM Installation Manager
  2. Open the File menu and click Preferences
  3. In the left panel, select Passport Advantage.
  4. If Connect to Passport Advantage is not selected, do the following
    • Click Connect to Passport Advantage
    • Enter your credentials and click OK
    • Click Apply
  5. Click OK to close the Preferences window

If installation will be performed over the Internet, follow these instructions.
  1. Start IBM Installation Manager
  2. Open the File menu and click Preferences
  3. In the left panel, click Repositories
  4. Near the bottom of the right panel, click Search service repositories during installation and updates to enable it
  5. Click OK to close the Preferences window

If installation will be performed with a fix pack in the form of a downloaded archive file, follow these instructions.
  1. See the separate installation document for how to download the fix pack from IBM Fix Central.
  2. Unzip the fix pack archive into a temporary_directory
  3. Start IBM Installation Manager
  4. Open the File menu and click Preferences
  5. In the left panel, click Repositories
  6. Click Add Repository
  7. Enter the location of the 5.0 repository
  8. Click OK in the Add Repository window
  9. A second time, click Add Repository
  10. Enter the location of the fix pack repository configuration:
    • For Worklight Server: temporary_directory/5001/update/repository/repository.config
    • For Worklight Studio: temporary_directory/edition_identifier/disk1/diskTag.inf
      where edition_identified is one of IWSMFEE, IWSMFCE, IWSWEE or IWSWCE representing the name of the product edition
  11. Click OK to close the Add Repository window
  12. Make sure the added repositories are selected
  13. Click OK to close the Preferences window

Upgrading an existing 5.0 installation to a Fix Pack

Special Note: If upgrading from a Worklight Server version prior to 5.0.0.3, it is optimal to first uninstall and then use the instructions to do the installation with 5.0 and the fix pack concurrently. This will enable several installation features only present in 5.0.0.3 and later releases which handle automatic installation into existing application servers and databases.
  1. Follow the appropriate instructions above to configure IBM Installation Manager
  2. Start IBM Installation Manager if it isn't already running
  3. Click Update
  4. A list of installable packages will be presented
  5. Click the packages you wish to update (Worklight for IBM Worklight Server, and IBM Software Delivery Platform for IBM Worklight Studio), or click Update all
  6. Click Next and follow the instructions to complete the installation

Installing 5.0 and a Fix Pack concurrently
  1. Follow the appropriate instructions above to configure IBM Installation Manager
  2. Start IBM Installation Manager if it isn't already running
  3. Click Install
  4. A list of installable packages will be presented
  5. Click Check for Other Versions, Fixes, and Extensions
  6. A pop-up dialog will come up indicating other packages are available
  7. Click OK to close the pop-up
  8. In the expanded list of installable packages, select the latest fix pack
  9. Click Next and follow the instructions to complete the installation
